How to Use Genie+ Step-by-Step at Magic Kingdom

Here’s a step-by-step guide on how to use Genie+ at Magic Kingdom:

Step 1: Purchase Genie+ through the My Disney Experience app

First, you’ll need to purchase Genie+ through the My Disney Experience app. The price varies but starts at around $15 per person per day. Trust us, it’s worth it! Simply open the app, navigate to the “My Plans” section, and select “Get Genie+.”

Step 2: Link your party’s tickets to the app

Make sure all members of your party have their MagicBands or park tickets linked to the My Disney Experience app. This is important so you can make reservations for everyone in your group.

Step 3: Choose your first Lightning Lane reservation

Now it’s time to make your first Lightning Lane reservation! Open the Genie+ section in the app. Select “Find a Time” for the attraction you want to ride and choose an available time slot. You can only make one Lightning Lane reservation at a time, so choose wisely!

Step 4: Enjoy your first attraction

Once your return window arrives, it’s time to ride! Head to the attraction at your designated time slot and look for the Lightning Lane entrance. Scan your MagicBand or park ticket and voila! You’re in the fast lane.

Step 5: Make additional Lightning Lane reservations

After using your first Lightning Lane reservation, you can make another reservation for a different participating attraction. Just repeat the process in Step 3 to select your next ride.

Which Rides are Not Included in Genie+ at Magic Kingdom?

While Genie+ offers a convenient way to skip the lines and access many of the park’s most popular attractions, there are still some rides that are not included. These include:

Seven Dwarfs Mine Train

A popular family-friendly coaster that takes you on a mining adventure with the Seven Dwarfs from Snow White.

Tron LightCycle Run

This brand-new attraction, unfortunately, is not (yet) available with Genie+. Currently, you’ll need to book a virtual queue first thing in the morning. And yes, that’s basically the same thing except it’s free (for now).

You can still enjoy them by either waiting in the standby line or by purchasing Individual Lightening Lanes (which we recommend).

Getting the Most Out of Your Genie+ Experience at Magic Kingdom

Genie+ is an excellent service that can help you make the most of your visit to Magic Kingdom. To get the best value out of your purchase and avoid long waits, you should follow these tips:

Start your day early

With Genie+, at Disney World, you can make your first reservation 2 hours before the park opens. Most of the time, that’s 7am. You do not have to have entered the park. However, it’s important to note the 2-hour timer will not start until 9am, or after this first reservation is used.

Book strategically

When making your reservations, consider the popularity of each ride, distance, and return time. It’s helpful to book rides with longer wait times, since those lines will only get longer as the day goes on.

Reservation Stacking is a tried and true Genie+ strategy that can help you craft a perfectly customized afternoon.

Prioritize the most popular attractions

Some of the more popular attractions will run out of return windows. You’ll want to try and book these first, to make the most of your purchase. Generally this includes Space Mountain, Jungle Cruise, Haunted Mansion, and Big Thunder Mountain.

Keep Checking Back

Just because a reservation isn’t available at the moment, it doesn’t mean that it won’t be later in the day. The availability of reservations can change throughout the day, so it’s important to keep an eye on the availability calendar to see if any new reservations become available. If a reservation for a popular attraction becomes available later in the day, you may want to modify your plans to take advantage of it.

Stay flexible

With Genie+, you can only book one reservation at a time, so it’s important to stay flexible throughout the day. If a reservation isn’t available for a particular attraction, move on to the next one and keep checking back throughout the day.

The Two-Hour Rule for Genie+ at Magic Kingdom

With Genie+, you can only make one Lightning Lane reservation at a time. After you use your reservation for that ride or attraction, you can make another reservation. However, you’ll never have to wait more than 2 hours to make your next reservation. So, if your return time is farther out than that you can book the next reservation after just 120 miuntes. This means that if you make a reservation for Space Mountain at 9am, the latest you’ll have to wait to book the next is 11am.

Making the most of the Two-Hour Rule: To make the most of the Two-Hour Rule, you should plan your reservations strategically. Start by booking your first reservation for the most popular attraction you want to experience. After you use that reservation, check the availability of other attractions you want to ride and book accordingly. It’s also a good idea to prioritize rides with long wait times or those that you really don’t want to miss.

Avoiding conflicts with other reservations. While the Two-Hour Rule can be a helpful tool for managing your time in the park, it can also lead to overlapping reservations. Since you don’t have to wait until you’ve used your previous bookings, it’s easy to accidentally book a second return time in the same window. It shouldn’t be too much of a problem, since the return window is an hour long. But, it’s something to be aware of. Especially if you are park hopping.

Number of Genie+ Rides Per Day at Magic Kingdom

According to Disney, guests can expect to make around 7 reservations on average, but the only limit is that you can only use it for each ride once. Since there are 14 attractions in Magic Kingdom on the Genie+ system, you can get at least 14. You actually get even more than that, using a trick we talk about in our reservation stacking strategy guide.

Is Genie+ Worth It at Magic Kingdom?

While there is an additional cost associated with Genie+, many guests find that it’s more than worth the investment. In fact, it can be the key to unlocking the full Magic Kingdom experience. With Genie+, you can bypass long lines, make the most of your time, and ensure that you get to experience all of the park’s most popular attractions.

But the benefits of Genie+ extend beyond just the attractions. It also allows you to experience the park in a more relaxed and stress-free way. Rather than rushing from ride to ride and worrying about long wait times, Genie+ provides a more streamlined experience, allowing you to take in the atmosphere and soak up the magic of Magic Kingdom.

How Often Does Genie+ Sell Out at Magic Kingdom?

Although Disney has not officially stated how often Genie+ may sell out at Magic Kingdom, it’s important to keep in mind that availability can fluctuate throughout the day. It’s possible that certain attractions may be fully booked during peak times, especially if you are visiting during a busy season. However, this doesn’t mean that all of the attractions included in Genie+ will be sold out at any given time.

To avoid disappointment, it’s important to plan ahead and have a good idea of which attractions you want to experience. One helpful tip is to make your reservations as early in the day as possible. This will give you a better chance of securing a spot for the attractions you’re most interested in.

The Difference Between Genie+ and Lightning Lane Rides at Magic Kingdom

Genie+ and Lightning Lane are both ways to access attractions more quickly, but they function differently. Genie+ is a paid service that allows you to make Lightning Lane reservations for certain attractions throughout the day. On the other hand, Lightning Lane is an option to purchase individual ride access, without needing to purchase Genie+.

While Genie+ allows you to make multiple Lightning Lane reservations throughout the day, purchasing Lightning Lane for individual rides can only be used once per ride. This means that if you purchase Lightning Lane for a specific ride, you can only use it for that ride and cannot use it for any other attraction.

To make the most of your Genie+ experience at Magic Kingdom, we recommend taking advantage of the early booking window for Lightning Lane reservations and prioritizing popular attractions with long wait times. Additionally, be sure to use the itinerary planning feature to map out your day and make the most of your time in the park.

So what are you waiting for? Start planning your next trip to Magic Kingdom and make sure to add Genie+ to your list of must-haves. Trust us, it’s worth it!
