If you’ve been overlooking Spice Road Table, it might be time to try something new. This casual sit-down dining option is located in the Morocco Pavilion of Epcot at
I have passed by Spice Road Table countless times while exploring the Morocco Pavilion. Which happens to be one of my favorite pavilions. It’s absolutely beautiful and feels like stepping into a completely different world. Transporting you from a theme park to the Mediterranean. However, Spice Road Table is located just across the walkway, next to the lagoon, making it very easy to miss.
I had never even taken the time to look at the menu before. But I am on a mission to try every plant-based option at
Atmosphere and First Impressions
I wasn’t sure what to expect from this location. It is sit-down and requires reservations. It offers table service, but they don’t have any entrees. The menu consists of appetizers or Mediterranean small plates, also known as tapas. As a fan of tapas, I was excited to try a few things out.
Fortunately, we were lucky enough to be seated at a beautiful outdoor table even without a reservation. We were right next to the World Showcase lagoon, only one table back from the reserved first row of tables. During this time, they offer a firework dining package that you can get from Spice Road Table. I highly recommend checking it out, especially if you’re interested in getting reserved seating for the new nighttime show at Epcot.
The decor in the outdoor space was limited, but the front check-in area and the interior dining area were absolutely beautiful. They were filled with touches of gold-colored glass chains, reflecting the decorating norms and culture of the area. It felt luxurious and I enjoyed indulging in some person-sized snacks.
Menu Options at Spice Road Table
Spice for a Table is a tapas-style venue that does not offer full entrees. Instead, they specialize in appetizers, small plates, or tapas. My main focus during this visit was to try their plant-based options, which include pomegranate chili, crispy cauliflower, house-made hummus fries, and Dolmas. However, we decided to skip the Dolmas since I’ve never been a fan of them. Maybe we’ll give them a try on our next visit.
House made hummus fries.
This dish is what drew us to Spice Road Table. When I saw it on the menu, I knew I had to try it. I love hummus, falafel, and chickpeas, so deep-fried hummus fries sounded intriguing. It turns out they are falafel shaped like fries. They were delicious – crispy on the outside, dense and well-seasoned. The citrus Chipotle sauce that accompanied them was a fantastic complement. This dish was definitely a step above what you would find at a normal theme park, and I would happily order it again.
One of my biggest interests in plant-based food is the creativity and diversity it offers, along with its connections to global cultures. Many countries rely on alternative sources of protein besides meat, so it’s exciting to try new dishes from around the world and discover new ways to think about ingredients. However, fry-shaped falafel was slightly disappointing to me. I’m not sure if it’s a traditional dish in Morocco, but my suspicion is that it’s an Americanized version of falafel that is more approachable for those unfamiliar with it. Despite this, I would still love to have these again because falafel is one of my all-time favorite dishes. If I had to choose one dish to eat for the rest of my life, it would probably be falafel. So, overall, this dish was a win for me.
However, I do wish it was available as a quick-service option. I would love to have my super portable hummus fries, which are essentially waffle-shaped, and walk around the park with them. While I enjoy sitting down and savoring meals at Spice Road Table, I also appreciate the freedom to continue exploring, especially at Epcot.
Pomegranate chili crispy cauliflower.
If you want to experience something showstopping, the pomegranate chili crispy cauliflower is absolutely fantastic. It could possibly be one of the best dishes I have ever had in
It was crispy, perfectly cooked, and the batter had just the right thickness – not too soft on the inside and not burnt on the outside. The sauce that coats the cauliflower, the red pepper alipo sauce, was absolutely amazing. I could even bathe in it. It’s somewhat similar to the sauce used for Orange Chicken at Panda Express, but it is so much better. The spice from the Elipo Peppers is just right. I need to find more condiments that contain those peppers, as I am a condiment connoisseur. The dish was sweet, tiny, and refreshing. It had everything I was looking for in an appetizer, and the pieces of cauliflower were incredibly large. We probably had an entire head of cauliflower on our plate with just four small pieces.
This dish is a must-try for me. I don’t even mind waiting in line for an hour to get a table. I am absolutely coming back for the pomegranate chili crispy cauliflower.
Iced mint tea
We also had the opportunity to try some of the delightful beverages offered at Spice Road Table, including their non-alcoholic iced mint tea. Let me tell you, the 5th drink on the menu was an absolute delight! This refreshing iced tea had a distinct mint flavor that was simply invigorating. I believe they used a mint syrup to infuse the tea, creating a harmonious blend of flavors. The base of the tea itself was a well-bodied black tea, with a deep and rich flavor that provided a satisfying taste experience. But what truly set this drink apart was the way the mint brightened and refreshed the entire flavor profile.
It added a unique twist to the beverage selection at a theme park like Epcot, where you can expect a variety of interesting options. In fact, Epcot is known for its diverse and innovative offerings, and this iced mint tea definitely lived up to that reputation. I was so impressed by this drink that I even started making it at home when I’m not able to visit the parks.
Mediterranean beer
I actually don’t know the name of the beer we had, which is unusual because I have an app to track every beer I’ve tried. However, the menu simply said “Mediterranean beer” and I couldn’t read the label. So, I don’t know what it was, but it was delicious. It wasn’t anything particularly special, just a nice, crisp, slightly sweet lager. It paired well with the tapas we were enjoying and was refreshing on this extremely hot and humid day. I do wish they had more beer options though. I’m a big beer person and one of the reasons I love Epcot is because of the wide variety of drinks and beers available. I’m not really into cocktails anymore, but I still enjoy a good beer and I wish there were a few more options.
