Everything You Need to Now About Memory Maker

Fun fact – I recently became a travel agent specializing in Disney vacations. I get questions all the time about different products, packages, and add-on’s that Disney offers. But the #1 question I get has to be “is the memory maker worth it?”

The short answer here is abso-freaking-lutley. But if you need more reason than that, hold on tight.

What is Memory Maker?

Memory Maker is a vacation add-on available exclusively at Disney World. The cost is $199, as of this writing with a $30 available for advanced purchases, and it entitles you to pictures. Lots of pictures.

Memory Maker is linked to your magic band, which you scan throughout the park to claim your photos. With Memory Maker you receive any and all photos taken of you and your family by Disney photographers. That includes the camera cast members you see when you enter the parks, all ride photos, character photos, and more.

Most of these photos cost more than $10 each if you buy them separately, so there is an obvious savings here. But, there’s also a few things you can’t get without it – like magic shots.

A Magic What?

A magic shot! Ya, that clears things up.

A magic shot is a photo that Disney digitally enhances before releasing to you. You get the original photo as well, of course, but the magic shots are so much fun!

Now, when I say digitally enhanced I don’t mean they make you look skinnier or make your kids look happier. Not that kind of enhanced. But Disney adds clip-art to your photos to give them some extra life. Sometimes they put Tinkerbell in your hands, sometimes it looks like you are being carried away by a bunch of balloons. There’s tons of them.

The best part of it all is that you don’t have to do anything more than purchase the package. You don’t have to go through and pick the best photos, decide which clip-art you want to add, and then wait for them to do it. It all happens instantaneously while your photo is being taken.

Where Are the Best Magic Shots?

Throughout the parks there are specific locations where different magic shots are done. Unfortunately, Disney hasn’t released an official list so it’s a bit of a guessing game.

But thanks to the power of Facebook, I’ve been able to gather a pretty comprehensive list of magic shot locations around Disney World. I can’t claim that this is a complete list, because things are always changing. But here it is,

The Comprehensive List of Magic Shots at Disney World

This list is accurate as of: August 2, 2018
*and will be updated periodically

If you want a specific shot, please be sure to ASK your photographer for it! Otherwise the photos you receive will be random, which is still fun. Character photographers are not available for magic shots.

  1. At all of these locations is a cast member there to take photo and scan band or do we have to upload our own photos

  2. I’m seeing that there’s a photopass card and a wrist band. Can you get the magic shots with both, or just the band? I’m curious to know if there’s a significant difference since we likely will just have the card.

    1. Hi Jenna,

You can use the Magic Band, park ticket, or a photopass card (provided by Disney photographers) to keep track of your photos and magic shots.

The Magic Band is the easiest because it’s conveniently on your wrist and doesn’t need to be charged or anything. They are free if you’re staying on site, if you’re staying off-site I’d recommend splurging you only need one (for the photo purpose) and it’s just so easy – but they run $20+ so that’s not in the budget for everyone. In lieu of that, I’d recommend downloading the My Disney Experience app and linking your park ticket; the photographers can scan it and it’s not likely to be lost (although it’s not friendly on the battery). The photopass cards work great as well, but I’m pretty prone to things falling out of my back pocket so it’s not my first choice.
