Why Disney’s New 9th Cruise Ship Is Making Waves

Hold onto your Mickey ears. The House of Mouse just dropped some pixie-dusted news that’s sure to make waves.

Disney has just announced that their ninth cruise ship will embark from the glittering shores of Tokyo, Japan in 2029. That’s right! We’re heading into the future, and it’s looking mighty magical.

What’s so special about Tokyo being the new hub?

For one, Tokyo is a vibrant city bursting with culture and innovation. It’s the perfect fusion of traditional and futuristic whimsy. Imagine sailing out past the neon lights of Shibuya, before experiencing the serenity of the Pacific Ocean. It’s going to be out of this world!

It’s also home to a small little theme park you might have heard of – Tokyo DisneySea. Just the holy grail of theme parks for us Disney Adults, no big deal right?

DisneySea, and Tokyo’s Disneyland, have long been touted to have some of the most immersive theming. Not to mention the parks are littered with unique rides like 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea and Journey to the Center of the Earth. See Disney doesn’t actually operate these parks, they’re not even majority owners. They’ve got stake in them but the Oriental Land Company runs (and funds) it all.

And if you’ve ever been to Tokyo you know, they take “go big or go home” quite literally. When the Oriental Land Company approached Disney about building their own parks, they spared no expense to make it the best Disney park on earth. Utilizing the skills and talent of Imagineers. OLC went to town investing in large scale projects and attractions that parks in the U.S. weren’t interested in funding.

Just look at this nighttime show! It’s like the Main Street Electrical parade and Fantasmic, together on steroids.

Which brings us to the most important detail of Disney‘s new cruise ship announcement.

It’s being built by the Oriental Land Company. Those same folks who just opened Fantasy Springs, a new land with a Frozen Roller Coaster and possibly the best Peter Pan attraction ever.

Not many details have been shared, just that the ship is expected to sail beginning in 2029. But if the Tokyo Disney parks are any indication of what’s to come – you better start saving your pennies now. I can’t wait!!

What amazing details do you think will come to Disney latest Cruise ship?
