The Unique Atmosphere of Oga’s Cantina

If you’ve ever wanted to rub elbows with Jedi or The Rebellion, Oga’s is where you’ll want to go. Walking in feels like stepping right into one of the Star Wars films. Right down to your host using the force to open the door.

Once inside you’ll be ‘seated’ in one of several areas.

Booths

Surrounding the perimeter of the room are several booths. Each booth sits 4-6 guests with a large table placed in the center. This is the only area where you will actually be seated, all other areas are standing.

Because booths are the only actual seats in Oga’s, they can be hard to come by. Generally these are only available to parties of 4 or more, with a dining reservation. But it never hurts to ask.

At the Bar

My absolute favorite place to be at Oga’s Cantina is the bar. You get prime access to the bartender, being able to watch them make the many colorful drinks on the menu.

The bar itself is lit with underlighting which gives it a mysterious ambiance. There are no chairs or stools, so guests are expected to stand. Your group will be placed next to other guests, but it’s still a fairly private experience.

Group Tables

If you do not have a reservation and join the walk-up wait list, you’ll most likely be sat at a group table. These are located around the room between the booths and bar, and fit up to 8 people.

Group tables are social. If you have less than 6 people in your group, you will be placed at the table with another group. It’s a great way to meet folks and make new friends, but it can be a bit awkward if you’re not prepared for it.

DJ R3X

Right across from the bar you’ll catch DJ R3X spinning up a storm on the stereo. Star Tours fans may recognize R3X from the attraction in Tomorrowland where he piloted until the early 2000’s.

Throughout Oga’s cantina there are pipes, tubes, creatures, and pennants that transport you to this galaxy far far away.

Reservations and Entry

Are you ready to get your groove on at Oga’s Cantina? While you don’t need a dining reservation, we definitely recommend one.

Guests are able to make an advanced dining reservation up to 60 days in advance with a valid credit card. Having an ADR means you’ll get to visit at the time you’ve selected, with little to no wait. You’re also more likely to be seated at a booth or the bar.

Don’t worry if you’re not able to snag the reservation you want, though. The walk-up wait list is available throughout most days at the Disneyland park. To join the Oga’s Cantina wait list you’ll need to be near the entrance.

Then open your Disneyland app, navigate to Oga’s Cantina, and click ‘Join Walk-up List.’ The app will send you a notification, and text message, when it’s time to return for your table. In our experience, there is normally still a waiting period once you return. This could be 15 minutes to an hour, so don’t get discouraged!

Time Limit and Minimums

Oga’s Cantina is one of the most popular attractions at Disneyland, and one of the only bars. Because so many guests want the chance to enjoy it, and to limit the amount of alcoholic drinks guests can consume, there is a limit of 45 minutes per party.

Don’t worry though! If you aren’t able to try everything you wanted to in that time, you can always order a drink to-go. In fact, you may see lots of guests pop-in just to get a drink to go! A reservation, or walk-up list spot, are still required.

Dining and Drinks

The highlight of Oga’s Cantina is undoubtedly its drink menu, which features an array of beverages designed to taste as good as they look. The Fuzzy Tauntaun is a must-try! This peach vodka-based drink is not only delicious but comes with a “fuzzy” twist, thanks to a foam topping that numbs the lips, creating a unique drinking experience.

For Star Wars fans, the Blue Bantha is another standout choice. This blue milk-based drink, which first made its appearance in “A New Hope,” is served chilled with a cookie topping, making it a perfect treat for visitors of all ages. Those looking for something with a bit more kick might opt for the Bespin Fizz, a bubbling cocktail with yuzu and rum, encapsulated in a cloud of dry ice to mimic the cloudy vistas of Bespin itself.

Location and atmosphere

Pressure Roasters is a convenient dining option if you are exploring the Black Spire outpost in Star Wars Galaxy’s Edge. However, if you are anywhere else in Disneyland, it will require a bit of a trek. This counter-service restaurant is located among the shops of the land and is just a short distance from Smugglers Run. There are tables and chairs available in the covered outdoor seating area, but they tend to get very crowded during lunchtime, making it difficult to find an available one.

The atmosphere in this area is in line with the theme of the land, with a fun caricature roasting away beasts at the center, adding to the ambiance. It is also close to several areas where park musicians perform throughout the day, providing additional entertainment. On the particular day we visited, it was quite busy. We opted to place a mobile order ahead of time and waited for a table to become available while our food was being prepared.

Staff and service

We used the mobile ordering service to save time by skipping the line and finding a table. However, due to this, our interactions with the staff and service were limited. The mobile ordering experience was great, as the app was user-friendly.

If you’re not experienced with mobile ordering, you should definitely learn more about it here, as it is the biggest park hack. Our order was promptly prepared once we indicated in the app that we had arrived. The staff member who gave us our food was friendly, courteous, and efficient – everything you could ask for in a service encounter.

But how is the food

Rontoless Garden Wrap

This plant-based menu item features soft, fluffy, and warm tortilla bread that surrounds the sandwich. It was like a pita bread and it was fantastic. The outside was crisp, the inside was soft, and it was everything you would want in a good flatbread. I could eat it with a bowl of sauce all day.

Speaking of sauce, the sauce on the Ronto Wrap was phenomenal. It was creamy, slightly spicy, and it contributed to the majority of the flavor profile of this item.

The sausage itself was a standard run-of-the-mill Impossible sausage, similar to the sweet Italian type sausage you can get from the grocery store. It’s nice to have these plant-based options available in the parks, but it wasn’t very innovative. However, it was still delicious. The creamy aioli added a lot of flavors, and the pickled veggies added crunch, tanginess, sweetness, and a little bit of spiciness.

Overall, it was a little bit spicy but not inedible.I would give it three stars. It’s a solid plant-based option in the parks. Probably one of the better ones. It’s just not my favorite and I wouldn’t make a special trip to Galaxy’s Edge just to get it again.

Ronto Wrap

The regular Ronto Wrap was admittedly a bit better. It had the same red sauce and flavored aioli.

The regular Ronto Wrap comes with a sausage that is a mix of pork and beef. It’s not overly seasoned or bland, it’s somewhere in the middle. The one advantage it has over the Impossible sausage is the texture, which the Impossible sausage struggles to match.

The regular Ronto Wrap also came with a crispy pickled slaw on top, and that’s what made it for me. I really enjoy pickles, vinegar, and tanginess. The regular Ronto Wrap had more of these flavors than the garden wrap.

Honestly, if I could just have the bread, slaw, and maybe some hummus on the side, I would have been a happy camper. It wasn’t bad, but it wasn’t great either. I would give it three stars. It’s a good option if you’re in the area, but I wouldn’t go all the way to the back of the park just to get it.

Tatooine Sunset Beverage

We also tried the Tatooine Sunset beverage, which sounded exciting. It was a beautiful beverage, absolutely gorgeous and Instagram-worthy. However, it tasted like Kool-Aid to me. If you like sweet drinks, this will definitely hit the spot.

Personally, I prefer something with a more balanced flavor profile and a bit more sophistication. It was basically like melted ice to me. I would give it two stars because it wasn’t bad, but I wouldn’t order it again.

Value and Final Thoughts on Ronto Roasters

At $14 each, these rental and Rancho list wraps are actually a fairly good deal in Disneyland. It’s a filling meal, and I was satisfied with just half of mine. You could possibly split it, especially between kids.

It’s a healthier option compared to many other choices available in the parks, and it’s not bad. If you’re on a budget, it’s a great option. The location may not be ideal, but it is convenient if you’re spending a lot of time in the Galaxy’s Edge area or Critter Country.

I appreciate that it’s another quick-service counter option, and I also like that it offers mobile ordering. Whether it’s at Disney or Starbucks, mobile ordering is probably my favorite thing about technology right now.

It allows me to place my order without interacting with other people and just pick it up when it’s ready. I know exactly when it will be ready. More mobile ordering, please!

Would I recommend this place? Yes, I would recommend it if you’re going to Disneyland and if you’re going to be in Galaxy’s Edge. Ronto wraps at Ronto Roasters is worth a quick stop to grab a bite to eat.

We finally know exactly when these two lands will open, and it’s a lot sooner than we thought. But (ugh, why is there always a but) not everything will be fully operational. Bummer.

What to Know About Galaxy’s Edge

Before we dive into the tips about how to get into Galaxy’s Edge, let’s talk about what we know. Aside from just how amazing it’s bound to be.

Opening Dates

Galaxy’s Edge will open on May 31, 2019, at Disneyland.

Rise of the Resistance will NOT be running, no additional information has been released yet about when this will open.

Things to Know

At Disneyland, you will need a reservation just to enter the new land, at least for the first few months, and it will not be available during magic morning hours.

Now let’s get to the good stuff.

How to Access Galaxy’s Edge at Disneyland

If you’ve been to Disneyland in the last year you’re probably familiar with where the entrances to this area will be. They are down a small pathway next to the Hungry Bear restaurant in Critter Country and off to the side of Big Thunder Mountain Railroad in Frontierland.

But knowing where the entrances are won’t be enough to get you in. From what I’ve seen and heard the new Galaxy’s Edge in Disneyland will not be much bigger than Toontown, which means there isn’t much room for the hordes of crowds that are bound to be there.

I honestly can imagine that for the first month, at least, the line to enter Galaxy’s Edge at Disneyland will wrap back all the way to the park entrance. When the Aladdin show closed at California Adventure a few years back, the wait for tickets was 8 hours (boy was that ever fun). Galaxy’s Edge is going to blow that out of the water.

So How do I Get in??

Disney is publishing some conflicting information about the reservation system, so please take this with a grain of salt and I’ll try to keep it updated as new announcements are made.

When Galaxy’s Edge opens at Disneyland May 31, it will employ a unique system reservation system we haven’t seen before. You’ll actually need to reserve a window of time to enter into the new land. At this time there is only 1 way of getting a reservation.

Stay on Site

All on-site property guests (that means you’re staying at the Disneyland hotel, Paradise Pier, or the Grand Californian) will be assigned a reservation to Star Wars Land during their stay. One reservation per guest, so be sure everyone in your party is listed in your hotel reservation.

*Disney is also saying, though, that entry is not guaranteed even to hotel guests. Which I imagine will depend on how long each guest stays in the area. There is obviously a capacity issue, so a reservation may be pushed or canceled if enough people haven’t left yet.

I’ve looked into reservations at Paradise Pier, which is the least expensive on site hotel, and I still don’t know if I can justify the cost. It’s over $400 per night during the first few weeks of June, and you have to stay 2 nights. Between the cost of the stay, tickets, food, and transportation – that’s easily reaching into $1,500.

And keep in mind that entry isn’t guaranteed. Even if you do get in only 1 of the 2 attractions will be open.

Oh. And no fastpasses.

Stay Alert

Now Disney is also saying that off-site guests will have an opportunity to make reservations for Galaxy’s Edge as well, but have not disclosed when or how.

If you’re a risk taker you could go ahead and book a good neighbor hotel and hope for the best. I’ll be e-mailing by subscribers the second I know that the reservation system is available (so, you probably want to sign-up for that list).

Personally, I’m taking this route. As soon as public reservations are available to book I’ll be trying to save my spot. You run the risk here that A) you may not get a reservation at all and B) even with a reservation you may not get in.

There’s a bit more risk than if you stay on site, but there’s also a much smaller price tag. And if it doesn’t work out, you can still enjoy a day at Disney and hope to snag a reservation while you’re there.

Special Events

There are numerous ticketed special events at Disneyland this year, and any one of those could prove to be your best option. Traditionally these events have a very limited number of tickets and guests still have access to all of the park.

Disney has not announced whether Galaxy’s Edge will be open for any these special events. But I’d bet on it, and I’m not much of a gambler.

Disneyland After Dark

This Spring Disney has put on a two Disneyland After Dark events, that were amazing. Last year they even had a Star Was themed After Dark event. 

A third Disneyland After Dark Event was just announced earlier this month, it’s slated to occur before Galaxy’s Edge opens. So i’m keeping my fingers crossed for another event after May 31.

Mickey’s Halloween Party

You can also snag a ticket to one of the Disneyland Halloween Parties in hopes of entering Galaxy’s Edge. Again, no confirmation yet that the land will be open during this ticketed event, but I think it’s likely.

Tickets go fast and run over $100 dollars. If you are only interested in Galaxy’s Edge, don’t rush to purchase this. But it’s a fun event all on it’s own, so still worth every penny if you can fit it into your budget.
