TRON Lightcycle History

TRON Lightcycle run is a thrilling rollercoaster based off of the semi-popular TRON film series. The third film, TRON: Ares, is set to release next year! The highly anticipated coaster first debuted in Shanghai Disney in 2016.

Guests board a bike-like ride vehicle where they are secured by both back and shin plates, before being launched into a race around the track. It was announced in 2019 that the attraction would be duplicated at Disney World’s Magic Kingdom, but construction was heavily impacted by the 2020 pandemic and opening was delayed.

Last Spring, Disney released a number of teaser trailers with hidden easter eggs secretly announcing the opening date. And then, on April 4 2023 she finally opened to the public. And we’ve all been setting our vacation alarms for 6:55am ever since.

Popularity at the Parks

TRON Lightcycle Run is one of the most popular rides at Magic Kingdom, if not all of Disney World resort. The unique ride vehicle, captivating light canopy, and limited queue options have made it an elusive and elite pick at the parks.

For the last year, and the next few days, guests looking to experience this attraction needed to snag a Virtual Queue or shell out for a Lightning Lane. Beginning at 7am, and again at 1pm, Disney opens the Virtual Queue for guests to join and obtain a boarding group. Those groups are called throughout the day, and once your boarding group is up it’s time to return for your ride.

But those boarding group numbers have become more and more difficult to come by. Often selling out within seconds of the drop time. However, when the standby line has been available (during special events such as Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party and After Hours), the wait times have been under an hour.

At the very first MNSSHP this year, the posted wait was around 30 minutes all night!

TRON Lightcycle Strategy

The biggest question (besides when Cosmic Rewind will finally open standby) is how this will impact your next trip! The truth is, we won’t now for sure until the data is in – but this is our best guess.

Lines will get long! Because it’s located in Tomorrowland and has a gorgeous view of the nighttime fireworks, it’s a safe bet that lines will continue through the night.

Rope Dropping is an option but will be pretty crazy for the next few months. During Early Entry (one of the major on-property perks) only Fantasyland and Tomorrowland are open. Usually the bulk of these crowds are rushing to Seven Dwarfs Mine Train, but the TRON standby queue should shake things up.

Lightning Lane has been selling out days in advance every since the new Multi-pass and Single Pass system rolled out. Likely because it was the only way to secure a spot and ensure guests get the opportunity to experience, since Virtual Queue has been so hard to get. These new changes could change that trend and make it easier to grab that single pass – if you’re willing to pay the price.

I for one can’t wait to see Virtual Queue disappear completely. There are still two rides at Disney World with no Standby Line. And if you don’t know about them, it’s sure to lead to a lot of disappointment!

Prebooking up to (3) Lightning Lanes up to 7 days before your vacation arrival date. That is, for guests staying on property at one of Disney‘s hotels, Shades of Green, or the Swan and Dolphin collection. In fact, if that’s you, you can pre-book Lightning Lanes for your entire vacation (up to 14 days) a full week before your arrival date.

Effectively, these hotel guests can book up to 21 days in advance. No body else is able to pre-book until 3 days before the date of their visit. Like we needed another reason to stay on property at Disney World.

Well we’ve been absolutely stalking Lightning Lane availability ever since it began last week and this is by far the most difficult one to secure.

Tiana’s Bayou Adventure

Disney World’s newest attraction is undeniably popular! And the only way to ride is with the Multi-pass or a Virtual Queue. Guests are flocking to the resort specifically to experience this ride and the inclusivity it brings to the parks.

Which means it’s nearly impossible to get. In fact, Lightning Lane return times for Tiana’s Bayou Adventure have been sold out days in advance ever since July 24th.

We just did our first pre-booking for an upcoming trip and there was absolutely no available return times. Even on the last day of the trip, which was a full 11 days away Tiana’s Bayou Adventure was completely sold out.

Top Tips to Secure

But there’s no need to worry, even if Tiana’s Bayou Adventure is at the top of your to-do list. You just might be able to snag this elusive Lightning Lane using our tips and tricks – and a bit of luck.

Stay on Property

Look, I’m not going to sugar coat this. The chances of Riding Tiana’s Bayou Adventure drop dramatically if you’re not staying at a participating resort. There are so many hotels at Disney World, and some, like All Star Sports, can be booked for around $100 a night!

This gives you a 4+ day advantage over the general public, which could give you the edge you need. Especially if you’re visiting during a slower time of year. If you’re able to sneak it into your budget, this splurge will get you much closer to the Bayou.

Book Late

In your trip, that is. Make Magic Kingdom the last park that you visit, giving you even more of a head start on those Lightning Lane reservations. And the longer your trip, the better. Not just because it’s extra time at Disney, but because you’ll get access to pre-book those last days before many other folks.

Don’t Give Up!

People’s plans change. Keep checking in the app in the days leading up to your visit for new availability. Even on the day of your visit, keep an eye out for Lightning Lane return times in the My Disney Experience app. It’s pretty common for guests to get stuck in a line, or stay longer than expected at lunch and need to adjust their return time or even cancel.

If you’re looking to avoid the crowds, it’s best to visit Disneyland during the off-season. The best times to visit are early Fall and early Spring. The weather tends to be more mild, schools are in session so crowds are less, and prices are often reduced.

But if you’re planning a trip during peak season, there are still ways to make the most of your visit. Be sure to arrive early and take advantage of the park’s Lightening Lane system, which allows you to skip the lines on select attractions.

How Young is Too Young at Disneyland for Kids?

There are so many reasons to bring your young kids to Disneyland, whether they’re old enough to remember it or not – you will. My oldest niece had her fist big Disney trip at 2, and that was across the country from San Diego to Disney World.

She doesn’t remember many details, but I do. I remember how she jumped up and down when she met Tinkerbell, dressed in her own green fairy dress. I remember her playing and laughing in the Epcot splash pads, and the tears afterward when we had to rush back and get a change of clothes.

A few years later, when she was 7 and finally tall enough for the big kid rides – I remember how she made us all go on Expedition Everest 9 times in a row. Back to back to back, and her smile had never been bigger.

Just last year I took my 4 year old niece on a rollercoaster she thought she was ready for (she wasn’t) and her older sister talked me into a ride she thought I was ready for, Pixar Pal-A-Round (I wasn’t).

The point is that a memorable family vacation is less about what little kids will remember and more about what they’ll get to experience. Also, kids under 3 are free – so, bonus.

Age-Appropriate Disneyland Experiences

One of the most common questions parents have when planning a trip to Disneyland is whether or not it’s worth taking young children to the park. The answer is a resounding yes! It’s a big question on folks mind when making their reservations. Will your child need it, use it, should you pack yours or rent locally? What’s the best stroller for the parks? After many trips to Disney parks on both costs I can tell you with great confidence – bring the stroller.

Kids as old as 8 or 9 might be fine walking to and from school, but the 10-20k steps in a Disney day hit different. Whenever I am in the parks with any of the littles under 12 in my life, there’s a stroller. They may not be happy to see it, but by the end of the day it gets used.

Take a Break

In the middle of the day. There are lots of hotels near to Disney by my absolute favorite is the Anaheim Inn. Located across the street from the main park entrance, you can be at security within 10 minutes. The benefit of not having to collapse, rebuild, and repack your stroller and kids beats the few hundred steps it adds to your day.

And staying so close allows you to pace yourselves. There’s a lot going on inside the parks from attractions and entertainment to lines, people’s bad habits, and a persistent level of sound and activity that can build to be overwhelming for any of us.

Pack a Snack

There’s nothing worth than a hangry child, except maybe an entire family of hangry folks. You’ve seen them before, realizing at the last second that they should have already eaten. But it’s too late now – no one can decide what they want to get, the line you’re in is taking forever, and suddenly there are no available order windows in the next hour.

So, bring some light snacks to keep everyone moving and grooving. Fruit snacks, chips, granola bars – nothing major. Besides helping to keep everyone happy, you’ll save big bucks buy not buying every treat that someone walks by with.

Once the gates open, head straight to Rise of the Resistance. Keep in mind that other guests will have the same idea, so be prepared to rush (not run).

Rope dropping has become increasingly popular over the years. And Rise is at the top of everyone’s list. So, I honestly don’t recommend this as the best strategy since more often than not the line will still be outrageous.

Closures and Re-openings

Rise of the Resistance can sometimes experience technical issues, leading to temporary closures. While this might seem like a bummer, it can actually be a great opportunity.

Keep an eye on the Disneyland app for real-time updates on ride status. If you see that the ride has closed, head over right away! Once it re-opens, you’ll find a much shorter line since other guests may not have noticed it’s back up and running.

Keep in mind that cast members stationed nearby may have limited information about the ride re-opening. Please be kind and stay patient.

Evening Hours

Another great time to ride is during the evening. As the day goes on, crowds tend to thin out, and wait times for many attractions, including Rise of the Resistance, decrease. Consider riding later in the afternoon when the lines are shorter or at night.

Plus, experiencing Galaxy’s Edge at night with all its beautiful lights is an extra bit of magic!

With park reservations, Genie+, and Lightening Lanes – planning and preparation are more important to your Disney trip than ever. And that includes dining reservations. Where there’s a will there’s a way, but the first step to securing those coveted spots is to make a wish list.

How Do Disney Dining Reservations Work?

Disney World is home to four different service types:

• Quick Service – or takeaway. Place your order with a cashier, or on the mobile app, and pick it up at the counter window
• Table Service – you’ll be seated at a table inside of the dining location. A server will come to take your order, bring out your meal, and help answer any questions you might have
• Character Dining – similar to Table Service, but characters will be roaming the restaurant and greeting guests
• Signature Dining – includes all aspects of Table Service but at upscale (fancy) locations such as California Grill or Victoria and Albert

While you can walk up to a quick service location at any time during operating hours – table service, character and signature dining all require reservations.

And these are some of the best dining options at Disney World, so you won’t want to miss them.

When to Book Disney Dining Reservations

Dining reservations open at 6:00am ET, 60 days in advance, for all park guests. Park reservations are recommended, but not required.

Those staying on property at a Disney World resort, or select nearby locations, are able to book reservations for the entire length of their stay 60 days before their arrival. If you are staying at a Disney hotel from April 1 – 10, you would be able to book reservations for the entire trip beginning on January 25th.

This effectively allows you to book 70 days in advance. Giving you a 10 day advantage over non-resort guests. Talk about an onsite benefit!

Tips and Tools for Securing Dining Reservations

Which brings us to our next tip:

Book Backwards

Take full advantage of this resort guest benefit by planning your most in-demand reservations at the end of your trip.

You’ll have a better chance of booking what you want, and after a few days in Disney World a sit down meal at a nice restaurant is going to sound even better.

There’s just no better way to cap off a trip than the rooftop firework viewing at California Grill.

Mark It On Your Calendar

As soon as you know you are going to Disney World, mark your calendar with the date that you can make your dining reservations.

There are so many moving parts and pieces in planning a vacation, especially to Disney World. It’s easy to forget something and miss the chance or a lifetime visiting Victoria and Albert.

Setting a reminder in your calendar, with a notification, will ensure you are up and online when the clock strikes 6am.

Use Your Travel Agent

It might come as a surprise but anytime you book a Disney stay, you’re paying for a travel agent. Whether you are using one or not, the cost is already built into the price of your trip.

Now, there are lot’s of reasons to consider using a travel agent. It’s free, they’re job is literally to know everything about Disney. But one of the best reasons is to avoid waking up at the crack of dawn to make dining reservations.

ADR’s open at 6:00am eastern. That’s 3:00am on the west coast, and midnight (or 1:00am) in Hawaii. Get a travel agent, sleep in, and secure top tier reservations to your favorite restaurants.

Notification Apps

My favorite thing about the internet is how easily creative and cunning folks can share their creations. Which is why we love the Mouse Dining webapp.

Mouse Dining receives information from the Disney World website to display up to the minute data about dining reservations. Simply pick the restaurant you’re interested in and view a complete calendar of availability.

Don’t see the date and time you’re looking for? Not to worry, just set an alert to receive an email when something opens up. This is a great way to secure last minute reservations.

Popular Dining Spots at Disney World

But where will you use all this new found knowledge? Nothing could be worse than going through the work only to have a disappointing experience that let’s you down. And trust me, it happens. Just look at our Rose and Crown dining review.

Break out that bucket list because here are the most in-demand dining reservations at Disney World

• Victoria and Albert is the only Michelin star rated location on Disney property
• California Grill Dinner located on the top floor of the contemporary, guests dining during the Magic Kingdom fireworks are able to access a rooftop viewing area. It’s the show of a lifetime, just don’t look down!
• Ohana located in the Polynesian resort, near Magic Kingdom. Famous for their noodles and bread pudding. Infamous for the Stitch character breakfast.
• Boma at the Animal Kingdom Lodge is a very upscale experience. Everything here is delicious, but the mac and cheese is so good it had to be brought back by popular demand after being briefly removed from the menu.
• Crystal Palace Breakfast Magic Kingdom’s signature character breakfast features friends from the Hundred Acre Woods including Pooh, Piglet, Eeyore, and Rabbit.
• Takumi Tei service a (pricey) prix fix menu, you will feel like you have teleported to Japan and not just the pavilion.
• Monsieur Paul Epcot is home to a litany of amazing dining options, but this location in the France pavilion may take the cake.
• Tusker House this Animal Kingdom classic is a favorite among guests young of all ages.
• Sanaa you might go for the bread service, but you’re going to come back for the butter chicken.

What to Know

It’s important to mention that a credit card is required to secure all dining reservations. And, missing a reservation could cost you $20 per person on the reservation.

Dining reservations can be modified and canceled up to 2 hours before you’re scheduled arrival time. Reservations are typically held for 15-20 minutes, in case you are running late. So the risk of missing your window is slim.

Disney World is full of amazing entertainment, rides, and festivals. But failing to plan some epic eats along the way, is planning to fail my friends. We absolutely love a mid-day dining break, or a fancy feast to end a trip.

So, let’s take on a magic carpet ride to explore why staying inside the heart of the magic is a great decision for your Disney adventure!

Complimentary Transportaion

Visiting Disney World can get very expensive, very quickly. After booking flights, tickets, car rental, and hotel rooms – the costs start to stack up. Which is why we love the multitude of FREE transportation around the Disney World Resort.

Buses

Once you step into your room the whole of Disney World is in the palm of your hand. At every on-property hotel you’ll find the infamous Disney busses, one for each park plus Disney Springs. Departing every 10-15 minutes, you can hop on and kick your feet up.

Boats

Hotels in the Epcot Resort area, such as the Beach Club Resort, also have boat service between Epcot and Hollywood Studios. Although, you’ll be so close to both you could even walk!

Guests staying in the Magic Kingdom Resort area have dedicated boat service as well – direct to Magic Kingdom.

Monorail

Staying in the Magic Kingdom Resort area gives you options though, as you can also hop on the Monorail.

Even though these options offer service directly to the hotels. Off property-guests can use them as well. Looking at you, Monorail Bar Crawl.

Skyliner

The most controversial and divisive option to travel around Disney World is the Skyliner. These gondolas in the sky began operation in 2019, and are truly an attraction of their own.

But these are high up in the sky, and some guests have reported being a bit shaken up by the adventure.

Early Morning Entry

Rope drop ready! Staying at a Disney World resort gets you into any Disney park 30 minutes early. That’s plenty of time to get to the front of the line at your favorite attraction.

Advanced Dining Reservations

While the parks are famous for their immersive experiences, character meets, and attractions. Disney in infamous for it’s dining. There’s even an entire festival celebrating food and wine at Epcot.

Among the many dining locations not to be missed, are spectacular table service restaurants. Global cuisine from locations like Sanaa allow you to try new dishes, while the Michelin rated Victoria and Albert provide a taste of elegance.

Reservations become available 60 days in advances, but popular spots can be hard to book! Guests staying at a Disney World Resort however, can make reservations for the duration of their stay (up to 10 days) starting 60 days from their check in date. That means you could book dining reservations 70 days in advance. Giving you a HUGE advantage.

Disney Dining Plan

The Disney Dining Plan is back in 2024, and it could save you a ton of money. Ordinarily we would not recommend paying for the Disney Dining Plan, unless you are looking for an all inclusive vacation.

The package pricing is simply not enticing and can very often cost more than if you had purchased meals outright. But several times a year Disney offers complimentary dining plans to guests, which can save you hundreds of dollars.

It’s one of the deals you can find, if you’re looking to save money on your next trip.

Genie+ Advantage

If you’re visiting Disney for the rides, you’ll probably want to try Genie+. Disney‘s newest service to skip the lines allows you to book return windows for select attractions around the parks.

While you wait for your return time, you can experience some of the underrated attractions with shorter lines, eat, shop. Beats waiting in line.

Day guests to the Disney parks are able to begin making reservations when the parks open. But those staying at the Disney World hotels can start booking at 7:00 AM, a full 2 hours early for most parks. This all but guarantees you’ll secure a reservation for your favorite ride.

Savvy resort guests know, stacking Genie+ reservations from the pool is the way to go.

Extra Magic Hours

Possibly the biggest perk of staying on site at a Disney World hotel are the Extra Magic Hours. Unfortunately, this is only available to guests staying at Deluxe resorts or participating partner locations.

For those who do though, Extra Magic Hours can be a vacation game changer. This perk allows guests to stay and play up to 3 hours after park close.

Tokyo has four distinct seasons, so it’s important to consider the weather when planning your visit. Summers in Tokyo are hot and humid, with temperatures ranging from 77 to 95 degrees Fahrenheit. Winters are cold and dry, with temperatures ranging from 32 to 50 degrees Fahrenheit. Spring and Fall are mild and pleasant. Temperatures range from 50 to 68 degrees Fahrenheit making them some of the best time to visit Tokyo Disney.

What to Wear Throughout the Year at Tokyo Disney

To ensure that you’re comfortable during your visit, dress for the weather. In the summer, wear light, breathable clothing and a hat to protect yourself from the sun. Consider bringing a portable fan or cooling towel to help you stay cool during the hotter parts of the day. In the winter, wear warm layers and a coat to keep yourself cozy. During spring and autumn, bring a light jacket or sweater in case of temperature drops.

It’s important to note that Tokyo can experience rain throughout the year, so pack a waterproof jacket or umbrella. And make sure to wear comfortable shoes suitable for walking in wet conditions.

Crowds at Tokyo Disneyland

If you’re unable to visit during the off-peak season, there are still ways to avoid the crowds during peak season and holidays. One way is to arrive at the park early in the morning when the park first opens, as the crowds tend to be smaller during the first few hours of the day. Additionally, consider visiting on weekdays instead of weekends, as the crowds are typically smaller on weekdays.

But, even if you end up visiting during peak season, don’t worry! There are ways to avoid the crowds and still have a fantastic time. You can use the FastPass system, which allows you to reserve a spot in line for popular attractions. This system can save you time and help you avoid waiting in long lines, allowing you to experience more attractions during your visit. However, it’s important to note that the FastPass system can fill up quickly, so be sure to reserve your spots as soon as possible.

Important Deadlines

I know, I know I’m scaring you off. You’re all excited thinking about princess pics and your kids meeting Mickey for the first time (Or planning your Drinking Around the World Strategy), and I’m putting big scary words like DEADLINES in bright caps. This is one of the most important things to take into consideration, because of 2 major planning deadlines.

FastPass+

We are at the start of our planning journey, so we do not need to worry just yet about what exactly FastPass+ is, however trust me you will want it. Essentially FastPass+ (or FP+) is a reservation system that allows you to book certain rides in advance and skip some of the longer attraction lines. There are rules, and tiers, and strategies – but we’ll save that conversation for another time. Just know you will want to be able to take advantage of this. There are 2 booking deadlines, if you will be staying off property (non-Disney hotel) than FP+ bookings are available 30 days from the first date of your trip. If you are staying on property (Disney hotel) bookings are available 60 days out.

Dining Reservations (ADR)

Disney World is FILLED with a multitude of different restaurants. There are quick, fast-food type restaurants, themed restaurants, celebrity chef restaurants, and many, many more. However, there are also many, many people how will also want to dine at these very popular restaurants. Advanced Dining Reservations (ADRs) are key to securing experiences and meals at the most popular of choices. Again, the details and strategies are not important at this time. However, it is a good choice to keep this option open. For guests staying off property ADR’s can be secured 90 days in advance, and on site guests can make their reservations 180 days from the first date of their trip.

How Far in Advance Should you Book?

At a bare minimum you need to book at least 61 days in advance. This will allow you to make FP+ reservations, which are almost essential for some rides and experiences. If you’re able to though, I recommend booking 6 to 12 months in advance. Booking your vacation this far in advance will allow you to secure ADR’s, FP+, and disperses the cost over a larger period of time. It’s difficult to push a trip off that far once you’ve made the decision, but it will be well worth the wait especially if this is your first time at Disney World.

Which Time of Year is the Best to Visit?

There are several different seasons at Disney World, defined by their crowds and pricing. Generally there is an On Season and an Off Season, then there is what I like to call the Mid Season.

Off Season

Disney is, of course, notorious for large crowds and price tags – but traveling during one of the two off seasons will help mitigate a bit of both of these issues. The official off season is early January (after new year’s) through the end of April – with the exception of Spring Break. The downside here is that there will be many rides that are closed for refurbishment and shows will be less frequent, as the crowds will be less. Prices for hotels will also be lower though, as a means of offsetting the more limited offerings in the park. There are also lower crowds during hurricane season and the beginning of Fall, August through till mid October. Prices are not necessarily much lower during this time period, but there are also less ride closures.

Obviously, the weather during these periods will be less desirable than in late spring or early summer. In the off-season it will be chillier and you will need to pack accordingly, if you go during hurricane season – well there’s a higher chance of hurricanes.

Mid Season

On the other end of the spectrum is the high crowd season, but in between is what I refer to as mid-season. This is April through June and Halloween through Thanksgiving, these periods of time will see higher attendance and higher pricing but more will be available. The crowds and prices will still be less than in the peak season, though.

Peak Season

I do not recommend visiting Disney World during the peak season. June and July are the hottest months of the year in Florida, and temperatures will be in or above the 90’s every day. There will also be very high crowds, possibly even park closures due to capacity issues. Prices will also be higher for both the parks and the hotels.

Promotions and Special Pricing

Another key factor is the availability of promotions and special pricing. These usually occur during the off season and hurricane season, to drive tourism during less desirable travel times. These are never a guarantee, and they usually are not advertised until much closer to the effected dates. Therefore It’s not something to base your trip around, however it is something to be aware of.

Seasonal Calendar

A crowd index or seasonal attendance calendar is a great tool for determining your ideal travel dates. There are many different versions of this data available on the internet, including mine which you can snag by clicking HERE

Final Thoughts

So there are a few key points to take away here when deciding what time of year to visit.

• Plan your vacation 6 to 12 months in advance
• Be aware of the season and its effects on crowds and pricing
• Utilize a Crowd Index Calendar to determine your ideal travel dates

There are many other factors that may come in to play such as school breaks, birthdays, anniversaries, employer vacation black-outs, and personal engagements. The planning and reasoning behind the decisions made for each trip is personal and will vary from person to person. By no means do I intend to say, or believe, that everyone should visit in March or that they have to book the day their desired dates become available. Take this information as a resource to guide the choices that you make for you and your family, but plan your trip according to your needs.
