With park reservations, Genie+, and Lightening Lanes – planning and preparation are more important to your Disney trip than ever. And that includes dining reservations. Where there’s a will there’s a way, but the first step to securing those coveted spots is to make a wish list.

How Do Disney Dining Reservations Work?

Disney World is home to four different service types:

• Quick Service – or takeaway. Place your order with a cashier, or on the mobile app, and pick it up at the counter window
• Table Service – you’ll be seated at a table inside of the dining location. A server will come to take your order, bring out your meal, and help answer any questions you might have
• Character Dining – similar to Table Service, but characters will be roaming the restaurant and greeting guests
• Signature Dining – includes all aspects of Table Service but at upscale (fancy) locations such as California Grill or Victoria and Albert

While you can walk up to a quick service location at any time during operating hours – table service, character and signature dining all require reservations.

And these are some of the best dining options at Disney World, so you won’t want to miss them.

When to Book Disney Dining Reservations

Dining reservations open at 6:00am ET, 60 days in advance, for all park guests. Park reservations are recommended, but not required.

Those staying on property at a Disney World resort, or select nearby locations, are able to book reservations for the entire length of their stay 60 days before their arrival. If you are staying at a Disney hotel from April 1 – 10, you would be able to book reservations for the entire trip beginning on January 25th.

This effectively allows you to book 70 days in advance. Giving you a 10 day advantage over non-resort guests. Talk about an onsite benefit!

Tips and Tools for Securing Dining Reservations

Which brings us to our next tip:

Book Backwards

Take full advantage of this resort guest benefit by planning your most in-demand reservations at the end of your trip.

You’ll have a better chance of booking what you want, and after a few days in Disney World a sit down meal at a nice restaurant is going to sound even better.

There’s just no better way to cap off a trip than the rooftop firework viewing at California Grill.

Mark It On Your Calendar

As soon as you know you are going to Disney World, mark your calendar with the date that you can make your dining reservations.

There are so many moving parts and pieces in planning a vacation, especially to Disney World. It’s easy to forget something and miss the chance or a lifetime visiting Victoria and Albert.

Setting a reminder in your calendar, with a notification, will ensure you are up and online when the clock strikes 6am.

Use Your Travel Agent

It might come as a surprise but anytime you book a Disney stay, you’re paying for a travel agent. Whether you are using one or not, the cost is already built into the price of your trip.

Now, there are lot’s of reasons to consider using a travel agent. It’s free, they’re job is literally to know everything about Disney. But one of the best reasons is to avoid waking up at the crack of dawn to make dining reservations.

ADR’s open at 6:00am eastern. That’s 3:00am on the west coast, and midnight (or 1:00am) in Hawaii. Get a travel agent, sleep in, and secure top tier reservations to your favorite restaurants.

Notification Apps

Mouse Dining receives information from the Disney World website to display up to the minute data about dining reservations. Simply pick the restaurant you’re interested in and view a complete calendar of availability.

It’s important to mention that a credit card is required to secure all dining reservations. And, missing a reservation could cost you $20 per person on the reservation.

Dining reservations can be modified and canceled up to 2 hours before you’re scheduled arrival time. Reservations are typically held for 15-20 minutes, in case you are running late. So the risk of missing your window is slim.

Sit Still Facing Forward

The face of the rebel spy is projected onto the ride screen for everyone in your vehicle to see. And with Disney‘s high standards for quality – they can’t use a picture that isn’t perfect.

So, to avoid a picture that’s blurry or just shows the top of your head while your stowing your items below the seat. Face the screen and try not to move around too much.

Craft an Amazing Face for the Cast Members

As long as the photo is clear and the guest is facing front – the cast member can choose whoever they want. So give them a bit of entertainment, make it impossible for them not to notice you – in a good way.

Making subtle silly faces seems to work best. Anything too over the top and you won’t get picked. But a grumpy face, or a dis-interested face, someone who looks super enthused – these are the type that get chosen.

Celebration Buttons

If you’ve ever been to Disney for a special occasion you might know the magic of the celebration buttons. They’re big, colorful buttons filled out by cast members that you can grab at various locations around the Disney parks and resorts.

You can a generic button that says “I’m celebrating” and the cast member will write in whatever you ask. But it’s the specialized buttons like “Happily Ever After” for weddings and anniversaries or “Happy Birthday” for, you guessed it, birthdays. Wearing one of these at the parks are pure Pixie Dust.

Cast members want to make your day special. They want to celebrate along with you. So, if you’ve got a button display it proud on Star Tours for an even better chance to be the rebel spy.

Sometimes the best way to get what you want is just to ask for it. Don’t be afraid to ask a nearby cast member how to be selected, or if you can be selected.

There’s certainly no guarantee that they can make it happen, but the worst they can tell you is “no!”

Best Tricks to Ride Star Tours The Adventure Continues

Star Tours opened at 1987 in Disneyland, and 1989 in Hollywood Studios at Disney World. But nearly 40 years later (literally, how?) it’s still a major attraction in the Disney parks. With wait times often between 45 and 90 minutes.

And with new adventures debuting at the attraction, the queue will be longer than ever. Here are our favorite tricks to minimize the wait and maximize the experience.

Disneyland

Located just past the main entrance to Tomorrowland, across from Buzz Lightyear’s Astro Blasters. Star Tours is especially popular at Disneyland with consistent wait times throughout the day. We’ve found the best times to ride are before noon and after 8:00pm.

Star Tours is on the Genie+ system and Lightening Lanes are commonly available to book until 6:00pm. Though that will give you a return window between 8:00pm and 9:00pm, cutting it pretty close.

Hollywood Studios

It’s a little bit easier to skip the line for Star Tours at Hollywood Studios. The longest waits occur during late morning and early afternoon. Your best bets for standby are before 10:00am, during rope drop, or after 2:00pm.

Lightening Lanes are usually available to book through 6:00pm, but again this will give you a late return time. Hollywood Studios is home to some of the most thrilling attractions at Disney World – as well as some of the longest lines. We’d recommend prioritizing more of the headliner attractions for Lightening Lanes and using the Star Tours Standby line in the mid afternoon. Complimentary Transportaion

Visiting Disney World can get very expensive, very quickly. After booking flights, tickets, car rental, and hotel rooms – the costs start to stack up. Which is why we love the multitude of FREE transportation around the Disney World Resort.

Buses

Once you step into your room the whole of Disney World is in the palm of your hand. At every on-property hotel you’ll find the infamous Disney busses, one for each park plus Disney Springs. Departing every 10-15 minutes, you can hop on and kick your feet up.

Boats

Hotels in the Epcot Resort area, such as the Beach Club Resort, also have boat service between Epcot and Hollywood Studios. Although, you’ll be so close to both you could even walk!

Guests staying in the Magic Kingdom Resort area have dedicated boat service as well – direct to Magic Kingdom.

Monorail

Staying in the Magic Kingdom Resort area gives you options though, as you can also hop on the Monorail.

Even though these options offer service directly to the hotels. Off property-guests can use them as well. Looking at you, Monorail Bar Crawl.

Skyliner

The most controversial and divisive option to travel around Disney World is the Skyliner. These gondolas in the sky began operation in 2019, and are truly an attraction of their own.

But these are high up in the sky, and some guests have reported being a bit shaken up by the adventure.

Early Morning Entry

Rope drop ready! Staying at a Disney World resort gets you into any Disney park 30 minutes early. That’s plenty of time to get to the front of the line at your favorite attraction.

Advanced Dining Reservations

While the parks are famous for their immersive experiences, character meets, and attractions. Disney in infamous for it’s dining. There’s even an entire festival celebrating food and wine at Epcot.

Among the many dining locations not to be missed, are spectacular table service restaurants. Global cuisine from locations like Sanaa allow you to try new dishes, while the Michelin rated Victoria and Albert provide a taste of elegance.

Reservations become available 60 days in advances, but popular spots can be hard to book! Guests staying at a Disney World Resort however, can make reservations for the duration of their stay (up to 10 days) starting 60 days from their check in date. That means you could book dining reservations 70 days in advance. Giving you a HUGE advantage.

Disney Dining Plan

The Disney Dining Plan is back in 2024, and it could save you a ton of money. Ordinarily we would not recommend paying for the Disney Dining Plan, unless you are looking for an all inclusive vacation.

The package pricing is simply not enticing and can very often cost more than if you had purchased meals outright. But several times a year Disney offers complimentary dining plans to guests, which can save you hundreds of dollars.

It’s one of the deals you can find, if you’re looking to save money on your next trip.

Genie+ Advantage

If you’re visiting Disney for the rides, you’ll probably want to try Genie+. Disney‘s newest service to skip the lines allows you to book return windows for select attractions around the parks.

While you wait for your return time, you can experience some of the underrated attractions with shorter lines, eat, shop. Beats waiting in line.

Day guests to the Disney parks are able to begin making reservations when the parks open. But those staying at the Disney World hotels can start booking at 7:00 AM, a full 2 hours early for most parks. This all but guarantees you’ll secure a reservation for your favorite ride.

Savvy resort guests know, stacking Genie+ reservations from the pool is the way to go.

Extra Magic Hours

Possibly the biggest perk of staying on site at a Disney World hotel are the Extra Magic Hours. Unfortunately, this is only available to guests staying at Deluxe resorts or participating partner locations.

For those who do though, Extra Magic Hours can be a vacation game changer. This perk allows guests to stay and play up to 3 hours after park close.

Not every park is available every day, however so be sure to check park hours for your trip. Additionally, guests will need to have an applicable day-time ticket for the park.

Extra Magic Hours are glorious. Experience lower crowds than rope drop, and walk on waits for some of your favorite rides. AND get access to a third virtual queue drop at 6:00pm.

Amenities and Activities

All resort guests can enjoy a breadth of amenities and activities at their resort. Each on-property hotel is home to, at least, 1 quick service location. Moderate and Deluxe hotels will also have a selection of table service dining and some even have a buffet!

Plus there are tons of things to do around your hotel for non-park days. From outdoor movies and campfire smore’s, to making friendship bracelets and Christmas ornaments. You could spend a week in one of Disney World’s hotels and never get bored.

It may come as a surprise to many but there’s actually a holiday between Halloween and Christmas. I know, it’s crazy talk! But Thanksgiving, as it’s come to be known, is a little talked about holiday that has come to represent family and thankfulness.

I’m kidding! Of course, you know what Thanksgiving is! What comes to mind is probably turkey, mashed potatoes, cranberry sauce – oh my! But, have you ever thought of spending Thanksgiving at Walk Disney World?

Thanksgiving Day Crowds at Disney World

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but Thanksgiving is one of the busiest days of the year at Disney parks.

Unfortunately, many folks have the same idea; that it’s a holiday so surely no-one will be there. That leads to higher than average crowds.

Big crowds don’t mean you won’t have a good time! I promise!

It just requires a bit more patience and planning.

Tips for Visiting Disney World on Thanksgiving Day

• Get up and get going early, I mean like rope drop early. Crowds are thinnest during the first 1-2 hours at any Disney park because most guests don’t want to be up early on vacation. It may be painful when the alarm goes off, but you can knock out most rides on your to-do list before lunch.
• Plan to do more than just rides. They’re great, sure, but there are so many limited time or single day attractions happening on Thanksgiving day! Parades, shows, holiday specials – that you won’t have an opportunity to see again unless you’re back the next year. Check out our Top Picks for Thanksgiving Day.
• Enjoy a late or Thanksgiving dinner, depending on your plans. If you’d like to see special day-time events book a late dinner. Those interested in night-time events are better off booking for early afternoon. Find out where to eat on Thanksgiving Day!
• Make good use of your FastPass+ It’s a very busy day for Disney. Once the crowds begin to fill the parks, you’ll likely see hour-long wait times for nearly everything. See the top FastPass picks by park!
• Have a plan. Yes, I say this about all Disney trips (hence the site name, guys!) But it’s especially important on a day like Thanksgiving. High crowds and a surplus of choices means it will be easy to miss (or forget) what you wanted to do or get irritated that you can’t do anything in a timely manner. What to Do and See on Thanksgiving Day

Disney offers amazing rides, shows, and entertainment every day of the year. But it gets even better during the holiday season and Thanksgiving day experiences it all. Here are some of the limited time attractions recommended for your Thanksgiving trip to Disney World.

• Holiday Decorations go up at Disney in early November. Enjoy the sights, sounds, and smells as you tour the parks
• Thanksgiving Parade of Bands is a super parade combining bands from more than 5 high schools around the United States. The parade takes place in Hollywood Studios and is a stunning showcase of collaboration.
• International Festival of the Holidays takes place each year in Epcot. You can try traditional holiday dishes from around the world and learn about other cultural celebrations.
• Candlelight Processional is the nighttime holiday event at Epcot featuring a rotating schedule of celebrities re-telling the traditional story of Christmas. Chita Rivera, of Broadway fame, is slated for Thanksgiving Day.
• Jingle Bell Jingle Bam is the holiday nighttime spectacle at Hollywood Studios. The magnificent show includes fireworks, lasers, music, and projection mapping technology. A must see presentation.

Where to Eat on Thanksgiving Day

We all know the best part of any trip to Disney is the spectacular food! From snacks to drinks, desserts, and dinner – there’s something you’re bound to love! Thanksgiving is no different! You can find turkey inspired treats at these locations:

• Liberty Tree Tavern in Magic Kingdom will be serving lunch and dinner.
• You can find lunch and dinner in Epcot at Akershus Royal Hall, Biergarten, Coral Reef, Le Cellier Steakhouse,  and the Rose & Crown Pub & Dining Room
• Animal Kingdom Lodge’s Sanna will offer reservations for lunch and dinner.
• The California Grill at Disney‘s Contemporary will serve Dinner
• Cape May Cafe at the Beach Club Resort will offer Dinner
• At Disney’s Wilderness Lodge the Whispering Canyon Cafe will be serving a family-style lunch and dinner
• Trail’s End at Fort Wilderness will have a buffet style lunch and dinner.
• Slightly off-site you can find Thanksgiving meals at Todd English’s Bluezoo and Garden Grove at the Swan & Dolphin hotels.
• If you can’t bring yourself to leave the parks and need a festive treat be sure to grab a Turkey Leg

Thanksgiving Day 2018 Itinerary*

Extra Magic Morning Hours are at Epcot on Thanksgiving day, from 8:00 am to 9:00 pm. Normally I’m in favor of using EMH, but based on the special event schedules I’m recommending that you stay clear.

I suggest rope dropping either Magic Kingdom or Animal Kingdom, whichever you have a stronger affinity towards. Fastpasses will be best utilized at Hollywood Studios.

Magic Kingdom

Disney’s Magic Kingdom will be decked out for the holidays and is home to some of the most iconic attractions. Crowds will likely be denser here than Animal Kingdom, as many will be out to see the decorations and classic rides. If this is your choice try rope dropping these rides.

• Seven Dwarves Mine Train
• Big Thunder Mountain Railroad
• Space Mountain
• Peter Pan

Animal Kingdom

While Animal Kingdom will not have nearly the same degree of holiday-themed decor as Magic Kingdom, there will be some. The crowds will be lesser than Magic Kingdom, which gives you an advantage to rope drop one of the most popular rides on property.

• Flight of Passage
• Kilimanjaro Safari
• Na’vi River Journey

Afternoon

You should be able to fit in 3-5 rides within the first 2 hours at either of these parks. Hop over to Epcot and enjoy lunch from one of the many offerings at the International Festival of holidays.

When you’re finished jump over to Hollywood Studios and use your fastpasses. Time allowing, you should be able to catch a portion of the Thanksgiving Parade of Bands. The parade begins at 2:00 pm, so try to book your fastpasses accordingly.

Evening

The Candlelight Processional at Epcot is one of the highest rated holiday events and my recommendation for nighttime entertainment. Dinner packages are available and highly recommended. Purchase of the Candlelight Processional Package guarantees you a seat to the event.

Reservations for the package are available until 5:30 pm, though they are quickly being booked. If you’re not able to reserve a package that fits your schedule try and book a late night dining reservation at one of the aforementioned locations.

Without the Candlelight Processional package, you will need to be diligent about getting your seat. Pick the performance time that best fits your plans (5:00 pm, 6:45 pm, or 8:15 pm) and arrive at least  30 minutes prior. Enjoy your late night meal after the show. Time permitting you can jump in line for 1-2 rides to round off the night.

You absolutely can, and should, take your child to Disney at any age you want!

True fact: Kids under 3 get in for free. So, why wouldn’t you bring them along? The child may not remember it, but you will. Everyone that embarks on the vacation with you will remember too. And trust me, there is nothing quite like the magic of your child’s face lighting up when they meet they’re favorite character. Not to mention the oh so cute photos you’re about to have.

Of course, a Disney trip with a toddler or infant is going to be different than an adults only trip. There are many things you have to consider when it comes to bringing along you’re little one. No need to worry though, because we’ve got the info you need.

Safety

First and foremost, let’s talk about safety. A trip to Disney can be a ton of fun, and it should be. But there are literally tens of thousands people inside each of the parks. It’s hot. And if you’re not careful it can be a recipe for disaster. So, don’t take these tips lightly as they could make a world of difference.

Take a Picture Each Morning

It seems like a no brainer that you would take a fabulous family photo at the park entrance first thing! But, it’s also easy to see the line for that photo op and change your mind. Taking a photo first thing in the morning, whether it’s at the hotel, park, or even on the bus, can make a big difference if your child gets lost.

Yes, even the little kids can stray – especially if they catch a glimpse of Mickey. Having a photo ensures that you can provide an accurate description of your child’s outfit. Even if you think you have the best memory and could never forget what you put them in this morning. Once you’re in crisis mode it’s easy to forget little things like the color of their shirt. So take a photo.

And if your child changes clothing for any reason, because they’re kids and they spill stuff and spit up, take a new picture.

Give Your Kid a Tattoo

The next thing you should do, is get your kid some ink. Literally. Grab a Sharpie and write your cell number on their arm. Then, use a liquid bandage product to make sure the ink stays in place and doesn’t wash off in the water rides.

In the event your child sneaks away, they won’t have to try and remember how to contact you. Disney Cast members are trained to take all lost children to a specified location at the front of the park. From there they can use a phone to contact you, if they know the number.

Make an Emergency Plan

Losing a child in any situation is one of the most terrifying experiences I can imagine. But, it is a real possibility. Especially in a crowded Disney park, filled with countless things that grab your little guys attention. The tips above will absolutely help you to connect with your child should this happen.

But it’s equally important to teach your child what to do in this situation. Let them know to find an employee ASAP. They can go into a store and find someone who works behind the counter, or look for someone in a uniform with a name tag. The trouble here is that there are many different uniforms at Disney.

My family has always taught the littles to find someone behind a counter, but tailor your plan to your child to make sure they understand.

Comfort

Whew, that was way too serious for a Disney post. With safety solutions in place, we’re going to talk a bit about keeping everyone comfortable.

Take a Break

Disney is exhausting enough as it is, but even more so when you are caring for a toddler or baby at the same time. You’re not just worried about reservations, but also keeping the baby safe and satiated.

That’s why you need to plan on taking some kind of break. Maybe that just means you sit down and have a table service lunch, or catch an indoor show. Or maybe you prefer to head back to your hotel and rest for a while. There are several great places around all the parks where you can sit in the shade, enjoy a snack or people watch, and allow a little one to take a nap in a stroller.

Many moms say their best strategy is to arrive at the parks earlier, take a long afternoon break, and head back for evening shows or magic hours.

Baby Care Centers

Each Disney park has at least one Baby Care Center. It’s an indoor, air conditioned area where you can take a break or take care of duty away from the park hub-ub. They offer a reasonable selection of baby essentials (albeit overpriced), as well as rocking chairs, and privacy for diaper changing and breastfeeding.

Stroller Selection

There are a few considerations when picking your ideal stroller for a Disney park. If your child is small enough to fit comfortably in an umbrella style stroller, I highly recommend one. This is for one major reason, they’re easy to quickly fold and set up. When you are moving on and off buses and through park security all day, you’ll thank me. You don’t want to be holding your child the entire time you’re waiting for a bus to arrive, and once it stops you have to hustle to hop on.

For larger children, this isn’t the ideal solution. You want to invest in a quality stroller, that they will feel comfortable in all day. There are tons of great companies in the Orlando area that offer stroller rentals, and will deliver them straight to your hotel. A recent trend are Keenz, which is more of a stroller wagon hybrid. They’re great to hold your child, and all your stuff, and have a shaded canopy.

Diaper (Bag) Duty

Packing a park bag is an art form, and a diaper bag is no different. There are the usual suspects you’ll want to include; diapers, wet wipes, rash cream, etc. But here are a few more you may not have thought of

• Change of clothes
• Large zip-loc bags (to hold dirty/wet clothes)
• Sunscreen
• Anti-bacterial spray
• Snacks (for both children and adults)

Experiences

Of course, the #1 reason you are taking your child to a Disney park is for the experience. You want them to meet their favorite characters, go for a spin on their first ride, and create memories that will last a lifetime.

Free Character Dining

Children under 3 eat free at buffets around Disney World. This is fan-freaking-tastic because most of the buffets are character meals. That means you can knock out 3-5 meet & greets in a single meal, and your child eats for free. That is one heck of a hack.

Disney Firsts

A little known secret at Disney World is the First Haircut Package on Main Street in Magic Kingdom. You can watch your little guy, or girl, get their locks clipped for the first time right in the middle of the magic. They’ll receive a Mickey hat and certificate as a souvenir as well.

Rider Swap

Okay, this one is for you! While there are many rides and attractions that you can take your tykes on at Disney Parks (Check out our list for Disney World and Disneyland). They’re not going to be able to ride everything. But you might still want to get a high flying experience on some of the big kid rides.

Enter Rider Swap.

With Rider Swap 1 adult can enter the attraction of choice, either via standby or Fastpass, and ask for a swap pass. Once they’ve ridden the attraction they can hand that pass over to another adult, who can then go straight to the front of the line. Keep in mind, that if the first adult uses a FastPass, the second will need to have one as well.

Love him or hate him, Walt was the creator of all the magic we know Disney for today. And there is something utterly astonishing about walking in his footsteps. If you haven’t visited home yet, it is something you have to do at least once. And while you’re planning that magical trip, here’s a helpful guide to all the rides at the Disneyland Resort.

Now, the last time I created a rides list (for Disney World) I got a little flack about what I categorized as “For Mature Adults & Seniors” and “For Grade School”, specifically. So, I wanted to make sure we’re all on the same page. Just because a ride is in one category, doesn’t mean it can’t be enjoyed by guests who are not.

Each ride is included in the list only once, so it is placed in the category it is predominately directed towards. The Mature Adults & Seniors encompasses rides that are less thrilling (than coasters) but may have elements that could frighten little ones. Teens & Young Adults is filled with high action rides with thrill value. Rides in Grade School have low thrill value, low fear value, but incorporate characters or creatures this age is familiar with. Young Kids rides are slow movers, that you will probably want to skip unless you have young kids.

Raise your hand if your husband, boyfriend, wife, girlfriend, or otherwise deemed significant other has rolled their eyes when you suggested a trip to Disney. We still love them, of course, but wouldn’t life be easier if they understood our obsession let alone were willing to indulge us?

Family Who Think It’s Just Disney

Then there’s the family members that think you’ve lost your mind planning a trip. On my family’s first Disney World trip I earned several nicknames because of my planning. I had spreadsheets, day planners, and notebooks filled with information. Not everyone understands the intricacies of a big trip like this. There’s a LOT to keep track of.

Kids Who Ask for Harry Potter

I love video clips of Disney surprise trip reveals. Usually the kids are overwhelmed with joy, they even cry sometimes because they’re just so happy. But, then there are videos where the kid gets excited because they got a watch! Only to be sorely disappointed when informed the device is actually a Magic Band. Talk about deflating the Disney balloon.

Or worse, they spend the trip asking to see characters or ride rides that are in other themeparks. Ugh – well at least you know for next time right?

How the Heck Do You Deal With it?

It’s frustrating and honestly a little bit depressing trying to plan a vacation with someone who isn’t interested. You’re pumped! Excited to start researching the latest rides, scoping out the snacks you want to try, and shopping for more Minnie Ears than you’ll even have time to wear. Then, out of nowhere you here it “don’t you want to vacation anywhere else?” ummmmmmm….No.

Honestly, it broke my heart the first time this happened to me. It was a boyfriend, who I’d been dating for a few months. I wanted to make the trip, but I was really worried I’d never want to bring him again if he couldn’t get interested. What’s a girl to do?! Then it was a sister who had absolutely no interest in the big family trip I was planning for us all. There’s always 1 Debbie Downer.

So, here’s some of the tricks I’ve used to help get everyone on board and maybe even convert them to the dark side.

I mean Disney side. Ya, right – that’s what I mean.

Talk About It

Crazy as it might sound, there are people in the world who have never entertained the notion of a Disney park trip. It’s not necessarily that they won’t enjoy it, they’ve just never done it. That was the case with my boyfriend, he had been to Disney World once 13 years before we met and never thought about it again. When I mentioned a day trip to Disneyland he agreed, but every time I asked his thoughts on something related he said “whatever you want babe.”

One day I got so annoyed that he had agreed to go but wouldn’t participate in planning that I had to say something, so I do. I asked why he was so indifferent, did he even want to go? I explained what the trip meant to me and why I was such an avid fan and park goer.

After that, he tried to be more involved and even, after 4+ years together now, knows the difference between Disneyland and Disney World. He even knows which rides are in which parks. It may not be a big deal to all, but once I explained my stance he was happy to be involved with something that made me happy.

Not Everyone Is Happy the Same Way

I learnt something in that conversation with my boyfriend. Just because he wasn’t breaking out the spreadsheets or making matching shirts didn’t mean he didn’t want to go. Not everyone jumps for joy and not everyone is interested in the planning. Some folks can be excited and still be able to talk about other stuff. I’m totally not one of those people (hence this site), but that doesn’t mean my way is the only way.

Educate Themselves

This one pertains more to kids than adults, but it could make for a fun date idea to. Help some of your friends or family to get excited by rekindling some of the Disney magic. How? Watch some movies of course! That’s where it started, after all.

With all the new properties being added to Disney parks, there is literally something for everyone. There’s super heroes, Star Wars, princesses, cowboys, talking animals, and – well you  probably get the idea. Once the youngin’s in  your group remember their favorite characters, they’ll be stoked at the idea of meeting them in person.

Show Them What They’re Getting Into

People think that Disney is just for kids. And it’s not, it’s for everyone. There’s quite a few rides that kids cannot even ride on. Help the fuddy duddies in your group get to know the grown up side of Disney with videos of the big kid rides. YouTube is FILLED with POV videos of rides at all of the parks. Just be sure you show them rides from the parks you’re going to, or you could end up with disappointment.

Know When to Let it Go

Not everyone is a Disney person, and try as you might you may not be able to show them the light. It’s okay, variety is the spice of life. Once you’ve explained your position, accepted they may express their excitement differently, and shown them some of the best parts of a trip – know when to let it go. If you feel like your experience is going to hampered by the presence of a nay-sayer, consider a new trip buddy (if you can).

Enjoy Your Trip Your Way

Haters are gonna hate, and if it’s your significant other or your child or other family it’s a buzzkill. But there is a silver lining, you can plan the trip however you want. Stop worrying about what attractions will change their mind, or which character will thaw their heart.
