This quirky coaster gave us wacky spins and mild thrills—perfect for the whole family. Sadly, after entertaining guests for years, Primeval Whirl is now extinct, permanently closing in 2020.

Dinosaur

If you’ve never ridden Dinosaur, you’re in for a prehistoric treat. It’ll send you hurtling through time in a jeep while trying to escape T-Rex and other dinosaurs. The ride is dark, bumpy, and downright exhilarating. Every twist and turn puts you face-to-face with a bigger and better dinosaur. Culminating with a very close encounter that will make your jaw drop. keeping your heart racing till the very end.

Triceratop Spin

Don’t overlook Triceratop Spin, especially if you’ve got a little one riding co-pilot. Riders sit in dino-themed gondolas that spin and soar above the crowds in a gentle circle. Kids can control the height, making it as exciting or chill as they prefer. It’s just simple, whimsical fun that puts smiles on little faces.

Whether you’re chasing a T-Rex or spinning with your mini dino-fans, DinoLand U.S.A. has something for everyone. Plus, these attractions offer a break from the Florida heat. Double win.

Enjoy delicious burgers, chicken nuggets, and hearty salads. The fare is, usually, delicious but honestly the very best part is dining inside of the airstream car. If you can snag a spot, it’s a great place to people watch and take a break.

Trilo-Bites

For a quick snack or a refreshing drink, Trilo-Bites is your go-to spot. Located conveniently near the entrance of DinoLand U.S.A., this kiosk offers a selection of mouthwatering treats.

Indulge in the buffalo chicken chips, a fan favorite, or cool down with a delicious soft-serve ice cream. If you’re in the mood for something more adventurous, try one of their specialty drinks, which often come with a fun, prehistoric twist.

Dino-Bite Snacks

Dino-Bite Snacks is the perfect place to satisfy your sweet tooth. This charming little stand offers a variety of ice cream treats, including sundaes and cookie ice cream sandwiches that are perfect for a hot day in the park. Changes Over Time

DinoLand U.S.A. has seen its fair share of changes over the years. One of the most notable was the closure of Primeval Whirl. While it wasn’t a fan favorite for many, it offered a quirky and fun experience. Unfortunately, the ride faced persistent maintenance issues and downtime. After a period of being “temporarily” closed, Disney finally retired the ride for good in 2020.

What is Happening to DinoLand U.S.A.?

Since Primeval Whirl’s closure, there have been several changes within this part of the park. DinoLand U.S.A.’s future is buzzing with speculation. Disney has hinted at some major changes, leaving fans both excited and nostalgic.

The big reveal? A transformation into “The Tropical Americas” – a whole new area inspired by the vibrant cultures and rich biodiversity of Central and South America.

Disney is stepping up their game with a rumored “Encanto” attraction. Imagine wandering through the magical Casa Madrigal! Plus, a new ride inspired by the Disney Pixar film Moana has been teased.

Patents have been filed for a brand new boat like ride vehicle and screen system. We’re expecting to hear more about these upcoming attractions during D23!

Visitor Tips

Optimal Visiting Times

Timing is everything, especially when it comes to conquering DinoLand U.S.A.. To avoid the dreaded crowd surge, aim to visit early in the morning. Queue times are shorter, the sun isn’t at peak “fry you like a crispy chicken” mode, and you’ll have the run of the place. If morning isn’t your thing, then consider late afternoon. Most people are gearing up for dinner or heading to evening shows. This can give you a second wind to explore without elbowing your way through dense packs of souvenir-toting tourists.

Must-Do Activities

Alright, strap in because there’s more to DinoLand U.S.A. than just a couple of rides and an expensive souvenir shop. Here’s what you shouldn’t miss:

1. Dinosaur: Yeah, I know it’s already been mentioned, but seriously, don’t skip this. It’s a dark, thrilling trip back to the Cretaceous period. Super immersive and downright heart-pounding.

The Flights of Passage History

Flight of Passage is a groundbreaking attraction that debuted in Pandora – The World of Avatar on May 27, 2017. Inspired by James Cameron’s blockbuster film. This thrilling ride allows guests to soar on the back of a banshee over the breathtaking landscapes of Pandora.

The journey begins in the queue, where visitors are immersed in the lush environment of the Valley of Mo’ara and guided through the scientific facilities of the Pandora Conservation Initiative. Here, guests learn about the symbiotic relationship between the Na’vi and the mountain banshees, setting the stage for an unforgettable experience.

The attraction itself is a marvel of modern theme park engineering, combining cutting-edge technology with immersive storytelling. Riders are linked to their own Avatar and seated on individual ride vehicles designed to simulate the flight of a banshee.

As the ride begins, guests are launched into a stunning 3D world, complete with exhilarating dips, swoops, and breathtaking vistas.

The realistic visuals, synchronized movements, and sensory effects create an unparalleled sense of flight, making Flight of Passage one of the most popular and critically acclaimed attractions at Disney‘s Animal Kingdom.

Rider Requirements

Guests must meet certain rider requirements to ensure a safe and comfortable experience for everyone. First and foremost, there is a height requirement of 44 inches (112 cm).

You’ll also be wearing 3D glasses for this experience with sudden drops, sharp turns, and intense visual and sensory effects. Individuals with motion sickness, fear of heights, or certain medical conditions such as heart, back, or neck problems should carefully consider whether this attraction is suitable for them.

How to Ride

Avatar Flights of Passage is insanely popular, with average wait times around 90 minutes to two hours. It’s good, but it’s not that good. There’s far too much to do in Animal Kingdom to be stuck standing around waiting for two hours.

Rope Dropping Flights of Passage

Animal Kingdom opens at 8:00am, most days, to standard daytime guests. Which means guests staying on property can enter as earlier as 7:30am.

Unfortunately, there aren’t many places for the rope drop crowds to go once inside the park. Kilimanjaro Safari‘s does not open early for hotel guests – and sometimes opens later than the park. And Expedition Everest is in the back of the park, with a Single Rider line.

Most guests are headed directly for Pandora, and Flights of Passage. Despite the early morning mad dash, rope dropping this Avatar adventure is still a good bet for guest staying on property. Plan to arrive at the park at least 30 minutes early (7:00am for on property guests).

Be prepared to wait 30-45 minutes – still better than 2 hours. If you aren’t staying at Disney World resort, rope dropping will still help shorten your wait time. But be prepared to wait upwards of an hour, even if you are the first guest through the gate at 8:00am.

Late Night

Don’t worry if you’re more of a night owl, as park closing is the second best time to ride Flight of passage. That’s because if you enter a queue at Disney before the park closes, they will let you wait to ride as long as it takes.

Sadly, the wait still tends to hover around 90 minutes even at the very end of the night. But at least you’re not missing out on other attractions around the park. And it’s usually much cooler.

TIPS: Grab a snack or drink from Pongu Pongu to make the wait a bit more barrable. 

Lightening Lane Status

The fact that Avatar Flight of Passage still pulls a consistent wait time nearing 2 hours, more than 7 years after opening is a testament to this timeless adventure. It’s a must-do attraction for many park guests and we agree!

So, if you’re not interested in rushing around to experience it there is another option: Lightening Lane. Disney‘s newest Skip the Line Service allows you to pay a single price to bypass the standby line, and basically walk on to this attraction.

Historically we’ve seen the price range between $11 and $16 per person, per day, for Avatar Flight of Passage. And for the most part, the Lightening Lane Single Pass is available all day. But this could change drastically with the upcoming changes.

If this is the ride that is going to make or break your trip – buy the Lightening Lane Single Pass as soon as you can. That’s 7 days before arrival if you’ll be staying at a Disney World resort, and 3 days before your visit to the parks if not.

Sadly, Animal Kingdom is also the most exclusive closing more than 2 hours earlier than any other park on property. Attractions like Kilimanjaro Safaris and the Maharajah Jungle Trek are journeys that bring you face to face with Lions, Zebras, Tigers, and more! And while it’s absolutely amazing that we get to experience these beautiful beasts, they are real live animals.

Real live animals that need to rest, and feast, and be attended to by their vets on a regular basis. It takes a LOT of work to keep everyone comfortable in the Florida heat so far away from home! Which means that Animal Kingdom has to close early to make those things happen.

But all that is about to change! Guests at a Disney Deluxe Resort, a Disney Villa (including DVC), the Swan and Dolphin collection, or Shades of Green will get to enjoy Animal Kingdom in a whole new light. Moon light, that is.

Animal Kingdom will be added to the Extended Evening Hours calendar for select dates throughout the rest of the year. With late night hours at both Magic Kingdom and Hollywood Studios being taken over by Halloween and Holiday parties (including Jollywood Nights), this highly coveted perk extends to this little park that could.

Rides and Attractions

Now Animal Kingdom critters will not be working any graveyard shifts, but there’s still lots to do in the park. Details for 2024 haven’t yet been announced, but here’s what we saw available during the 2023 season.

Disney World’s been buzzing with updates and whispers lately. From the re-imagining of DinoLand U.S.A in Animal Kingdom to the mysterious plans Beyond Big Thunder Mountain in Magic Kingdom, there’s a lot on the horizon. But, a little birdie (or maybe a clever sea turtle?) has brought us some intriguing news about a potential Moana ride!

In 2022, Disney filed a patent for something called a “Boat Motion Simulator.” Now, before your eyes glaze over with technical jargon, let me break it down. This patent described a fancy system designed to give a passenger boat the real-deal feel of oceanic motions like rolling, swaying, and pitching—kind of like your personal boat party!

So, already, we were dreaming of voyaging past Te Fiti, witnessing breathtaking animations, and maybe even hearing a live chicken screech from Heihei.

Fast forward to today, Disney‘s filed another patent that’s making us even more giddy! This one’s titled, “Guided Boat with External Discrete Yaw Control.” Fancy words, sure, but what you need to know is this tech could let boats change direction independently.

Using an underwater track or guide, each boat on this ride can be pointed in different directions to catch all the mesmerizing scenes Disney Imagineers are likely dreaming up! Cue the Moana soundtrack, because my excitement is doing flips right now!

Now, where-oh-where could this boat ride be anchored? During the 2022 D23 Expo, Disney teased a Moana-centric area might dock in DinoLand U.S.A. However, we’ve since heard that this expansion’s more likely to be themed around the “Tropical Americas.” So, will Moana wave hello from a different park altogether? Only time (and maybe a few more sneaky patents) will tell.

Ride Overview and What to Expect

Kilimanjaro Safaris is a 22-minute journey through the Harambe Wildlife Reserve, designed to mimic an African safari. The open-sided safari vehicles provide fantastic views of the diverse landscapes and the animals that inhabit them. You’ll travel through forests, wetlands, and savannahs, encountering a wide variety of animals along the way.

Expect to see giraffes munching on treetops, elephants splashing in the water, lions lounging on rocks, and rhinos grazing. The ride can be bumpy, adding to the authentic feel of an actual safari. While it’s safe for most guests, expectant mothers should consider skipping this one due to the rough terrain.

Genie+ Strategy for Kilimanjaro Safari

When it comes to Genie+ selections, Kilimanjaro Safaris should be high on your list. This ride is extremely popular, and lines can get pretty long, especially during peak hours. Make Kilimanjaro Safaris your second priority right after Na’vi River Journey. You won’t need Genie+ for many other attractions in the park including Expedition Everest, which has a single rider line to help manage queue times.

By booking Kilimanjaro Safaris as your second Genie+ selection, you can enjoy other attractions early in the day and still catch the safari without a long wait. Trust me, it’s worth it!

Best Times to Ride Kilimanjaro Safari

What makes this attraction one-of-a-kind is the live animals you’ll see along the way. While Disney does their best to keep everyone out and active during the day, you’ll get a better experience during certain times.

Park Open

One of the best times to hop on Kilimanjaro Safaris is right when the park opens. The animals are more active in the cool morning air, and you’ll enjoy shorter wait times. Starting your day with a safari adventure can set the perfect tone for your visit to Animal Kingdom! Later Afternoon

Another great time for the safari is in the late afternoon. As the day cools down, the animals become more lively again, and the crowds thin out. Plus, the lighting is perfect for snapping those stunning wildlife photos. It’s a wonderful way to wind down your day at the park.

When it Rains

Believe it or not, rainy days can be fantastic for a safari. Animals love the rain and are often more active, rolling in the mud and playing. Plus, rainy days mean lighter crowds, so you can enjoy a more relaxed experience.

Pixie Pointer: For the best animal sightings, try to sit on the left side of the safari vehicle. You’ll get closer views of the giraffes and elephants, making for some fantastic photo opportunities!

When to Avoid Kilimanjaro Safaris

Just like there’s a best time to ride, you’ll quickly find there are some less than ideal times as well.

During the Heat of the Day

Midday can be a tough time for a safari. The heat tends to make the animals seek shade, so they might not be as active. Plus, wait times can be longer due to higher crowd levels. If you can, plan to do indoor attractions or shows during this time to stay cool and wait for better safari conditions.

Late Morning/Early Afternoon

This is typically the busiest time at Animal Kingdom. Lines for Kilimanjaro Safaris can be quite long, and the animals might not be as active due to the heat. If you’re looking to avoid long waits and get the best animal views, try to schedule your safari for early morning or late afternoon instead.

Fun Facts and Trivia

• The baobab trees you see on the safari are actually artificial, but they look incredibly real and add to the authentic feel of the savannah landscape.
• Kilimanjaro Safaris features over 34 different species of animals, all of which are real and living in the reserve. No animatronics here!
• The ride vehicles can hold up to 32 guests, ensuring everyone gets a good view of the animals.
• Each safari is unique, as the animals roam freely within their enclosures, creating different experiences every time you ride.

In fact Animal Kingdom might just be the best park at Disney World. But it is a single day park. Whether you’re staying on property with early entry and using Genie+, or know nothing about what a Lightening Lane is. You, yes you, can absolute conquer all of Animal Kingdom in just one day.

1 Day Itinerary Overview

There are many different ways to navigate the Disney parks. From rope drop and early entry to paid skip the line services, and more. But, for the purposes of this guide we won’t be using any of these.

In this 1 day itinerary we will begin when the park officially opens, usually 8:00am, and will not use any paid line services like Genie+ or Individual Lightening Lanes. Perfect for guests on a budget or staying off-site.

What to Expect

It is absolutely possible to experience everything at Animal Kingdom in one day, without using any paid services. However, there will be some unavoidable lines.

Our 1-Day itinerary focuses on riding attractions and seeing shows during the shortest wait times of the day. When a line can’t be avoided, we plan to manage the wait at a time a day that is not too hot and won’t add wait times to other attractions.

Park Strategy

There are 4 types of experiences at Animal Kingdom.

• Rides and Attractions
• Shows
• Live Animals
• Character Meets

Live animals can be found at specific locations around the park such as the Maharaja Jungle Trek, Affection Section, and more. The hours are limited but there’s no wait time.

Character Meets are inconsistent at Animal Kingdom. The only continual meet and greet is Mickey and Minnie at Adventure Outpost. Normally you can find Donald, Pocahontas, Kevin, and more but schedules and locations vary. This guide does not include character meet and greets, as exact appearances can be difficult to predict.

There are 3 shows; Festival of the Lion King, Finding Nemo…The Big Blue and Beyond, and Feathered Friends in Flight. Each of these has continual showtimes throughout the day, with minimal lines and wait times.

The bread and butter of any theme park is the rides and attractions. There are eight rides at Animal Kingdom including the massively popular Avatar: Flight of Passage.

Early Morning

On a regular day Animal Kingdom opens at 8:00am, but rope dropping happens at 7:30am when on-site property guests are able to enter the park. That means the most popular rides will already have a long wait, Flight of Passage and Na’vi River Journey.

Kilimanjaro Safaris

There’s no better way to start your day than at Kilimanjaro Safaris. The average wait time at park open is 15-20 mins. Plus the animals are most active in the morning, making it the perfect time to see them all.

Expedition Everest

Kilimanjaro Safari should let you out around 8:30am, which is still plenty of time to enjoy the short waits of early morning. A short walk will have you at Expedition Everest before 9:00am. The wait time should be less than 25 minutes.

If you and your group are willing to split up, single rider can eliminate the wait for Expedition Everest. 

Kali River Rapids

Right next door to Expedition Everest is Kali River Rapids. A short, but thrilling, water ride where you will get wet. The wait for Kali River tends to stay below 30 minutes even at the height of the day. If you don’t want to get soaked early in the morning, it’s easy enough to hop on at a later time. But the shortest wait is going to be in the morning.

DINOsaur

Rounding out the morning is the original Animal Kingdom thrill ride; DINOsaur. Hop aboard a time traveling vehicle to see dinosaurs in real life, until things go a little a off script. Arriving near 10:00am the wait should be less than 20 minutes.

TriceraTop Spin

The nearby TriceraTop Spin is similar to the Dumbo and Aladdin’s Magic Carpet rides at Magic Kingdom. A raised spinner featuring pastel colored dinosaurs. It’s cute though far from exciting. I absolutely recommend riding while you can though, as it is likely to be removed soon to make way for a new Tropical Americas land.

Late Morning

With most attractions in Animal Kingdom checked off the list by 10:30am, were left with 2 more. Avatar Flight of Passage has an average wait of more than 100 minutes all day. It’s unavoidable, but we’re going to leverage a small hack to make sure this wait doesn’t hold up the day.

Na’vi River Journey

The second longest wait is Na’vi River Journey which varies throughout the day, but normally hovers around 70 minutes. Since there’s not many options to skip the line, the best time of day to wait is late morning. Early morning is best used enjoying the short waits around the rest of the park, and by afternoon it’s far too hot to wait over an hour in the sun.

So grab a rum blossom and a snack, and head over to Na’vi River Journey.

Afternoon

After all that running around it’s definitely time for a break. Enjoy lunch at one the many quick service dining locations around the park, our favorite is Flame Tree Barbeque but Satuli Canteen is another great option.

The afternoon of our 1-day itinerary is all about shows and animals. Showtimes stay pretty consistent day to day, but you should always check the Disney World app for the current schedule just in case.

Feathered Friends in Flight

This high flying show runs hourly from 10:30am to 3:30pm. Feathered Friends in Flight closes earlier than any other shows in Animal Kingdom, so we like to knock it out first thing in the afternoon at the 1:30 showing.

Animal Trails

Between shows is the perfect time to explore the two animal trails; Maharaja Jungle Trek and Gorilla Falls.

These are some of my favorite attractions at Animal Kingdom. There are so many different species that you can see, and even enter an open air room with bats! It’s much more fun that it sounds, I promise.

Festival of the Lion King

By far the best show at Disney World is Festival of the Lion King. It’s a Broadway style revue with acrobats, fire eaters, larger than life floats, and some of the most talented vocalists you’ve seen. It’s very popular and can fill up, so it’s always best to arrive at least 15 minutes early. Aim for the 3:00pm showing to ensure enough time for…

Finding Nemo…The Big Blue, and Beyond

With it’s final show of the day at 4:30pm, Finding Nemo finishes off the late afternoon of our 1-day Animal Kingdom Itinerary. There is plenty of seating for everyone and rarely fills up, so you’ll have plenty of time to zip over from Festival of the Lion King.

Evening and Closing Hours

With just a few hours left in the day at Animal Kingdom there are a few different ways to cap off the adventure.

Avatar: Flight of Passage

It may finally be time to wait in the longest line at Animal Kingdom. The queue for Avatar: Flight of Passage will be about 90 minutes, but at least the heat of the day has passed and the sun isn’t baring down.

Line Snacks

Our 1-day Itinerary is a very full day! So, if at the end of it all you are ready to check off one final ride and make your way out – you can. Grab a snack and a drink to enjoy while you wait. If you’re looking for a relaxing dinner afterwards, Sanaa is a phenomenal nearby option.

Loop Around

There’s a small secret I have to share, though it’s a bit more widely known in recent years. Guests who are in an attraction queue before park close can stay in that queue and wait it out to ride, no matter how long the queue is.

This is one of the best ways to wait out Flight of Passage without splurging for the Lightening Lane. You save the time in the park and basically extend your park day. With a few hours left in the day, you can circle back to your favorite attractions and ride again. Kilimanjaro Safari is a different experience every time and sunset is an active time for the animals.

Luxuriate

But our absolute favorite way to end the day at Animal Kingdom is to just hang out. After a full day of running around the park and squeezing out every possible second of the day. Nothing sounds better than sitting down at the Nomad Lounge for cocktails and a light bite. It’s a great time to shop for souvenirs or grab the Dole Whip Rum cocktail at Tamu Tamu refreshments.

And then get in line for Flight of Passage 15 minutes before park close.

That is how you do everything at Animal Kingdom in just one day, without paying for any additional services.

D23 Announcement

There were a lot of potential park updates shared by Josh D’Amaro at last year’s D23 Expo in Orlando. But Disney made it very clear at the time, that it was just that – potential.

The Imagineering team shared concept art for multiple new lands in Magic Kingdom. Including a Villains themed area, which had many of us literally jumping for joy.

It was beyond exciting to hear about so many new attractions that could be coming to the parks. But, nothing was confirmed or guaranteed. We all collectively crossed our fingers and held our breath, but no one knew if any of this was going to happen.

Tropical Americas at Animal Kingdom

Among those D23 Expo updates was an announcement about a Dinoland U.S.A retheming. A much neglected area of the Animal Kingdom park that is clearly in need of attention.

Indiana Jones Attraction

During the presentation Disney heavily implied that Indiana Jones may be coming to Dinoland U.S.A taking over what is currently Dinosaur. Fans and guests of the Disney resorts have speculated for a long time that this could happen, as both attractions share the same ride system.

Encanto

While discussing plans to retheme the Dinoland area, the offstage band at D23 started playing “We Don’t Talk About Bruno.” This seemingly suggested that Encanto may be incorporated into these new plans.

And onstage Josh D’Amaro suggested “maybe something to do with a casita?” Again hinting at what could be happening, without really confirming anything.

New Models of Tropical Americas Land

That brings us back to today, when Disney released a reel on Instagram showcasing several models that could be used in the new Tropical Americas land at Animal Kingdom.

In the clip we see an Imagineering team on location in South America studying culture and exploring the environment that inspired both of these films.

We also get to see several models of scenes from Encanto.

Disney has still yet to confirm the retheming or what new attractions, characters, and dining could be coming. This year’s D23 is right around the corner though, so we’ll keep our fingers crossed a bit longer for something concrete.

Before you visit the parks, it’s important to do a bit of planning to make the most of your time in the park. Here are some tips to help you plan your visit:

Best time of year to visit

Animal Kingdom gets busy during the Summer and Holidays, just like the rest of the Disney World Resort. Unfortunately, many of the slower times of year have even been fairly busy in recent years.

Increased interest in the parks, combined with more RunDisney and sports events, have driven a lot more annual visitors.

There are still times of the year that are better to visit than others, early Spring and mid-late Summer are some of the best. Our best recommendation, though, is to check a crowd calendar.

Park hours and crowd levels

Check park hours and crowd levels before your visit, to plan your day. Arriving early or staying late can help avoid the busiest times. Keep in mind that Animal Kingdom closes much earlier than the other Disney World park, usually at 7:00 pm.

Rope Drop

One of the best ways to maximize your time in Animal Kingdom is rope drop. Guests staying on property at a Disney World resort, or a participating hotel in the Disney Springs or Epcot area, are able to enter the park 30 minutes before the posted opening time.

However, you’ll want to arrive at the park even earlier still! We recommend being in line outside of Animal Kingdom at least 1 hour before the posted park opening.

Once the gates open, you’ll be able to enter the park and head to your favorite part of the park.

Non-Resort Guests

Unfortunately, guests staying off property are at a BIG disadvantage for rope drop. Resort guests will already had 30 minutes to get in line, before non-resort are even able to enter the park.

It may not seem like a large amount of time, but the queue for Avatar: Flight of Passage jumps to 45 minutes, plus, almost immediately.

Animal Kingdom tends to have higher morning crowds than the other parks. Between the early park close time, and most of the animals being more active earlier in the day – rope dropping is a popular strategy.

Which attractions to prioritize

The top priority at Animal Kingdom is Avatar: Flight of Passage. This is still one of the most popular rides in all of Disney World. If you are a non-resort guest, skip this.

Next you’ll want to pick between Na’vi River Journey and Kilimanjaro Safari. Na’vi River Journey will be closer, but Kilimanjaro is infinitely better in the morning than any other time of day.

Genie+ Strategy

One of the newest systems at Disney parks is Genie+, which allows you to skip the regular lines for a fee. Here’s how to use minimize wait times with Genie+ at Animal Kingdom:

How to use Genie+

Genie+ can be purchased through the My Disney Experience app. The price varies based on the day, crowds, and the park you are visiting. Animal Kingdom tends to range from $15-25 per person, per day.

Guests are able to make a Lightening Lane reservation for select attractions. Essentially this gives you a window when you’ll return to a ride and be able to board with little to no wait.

Avatar: Flight of Passage is not included in Genie+. An Individual Lightening Lane must be purchased to ‘skip the line.’ Again, the price will vary from day to day but $20 per person is common.

Ride Priorities for Genie+

The most popular Lightening Lane in Animal Kingdom, is the meet and greet at Adventures Outpost. This experience closes before the park and is a great chance to say hi to Minnie and Mickey. It’s the only place you’ll find them in their Safari outfits!

Na’vi River Journey is our second priority. Morning return times will go fast! We recommend grabbing this one early in the day to stack for the afternoon.

After securing these two popular Genie+ attractions, Expedition Everest is the next priority.

Kilimanjaro Safaris

Another popular attraction, but timing matters. On Kilimanjaro you’ll board an open air vehicle and drive through large expanses of animal habitats. These animals are most active early in the morning and near sunset.

Genie+ return times are too difficult to predict, to ensure a good window for the safari. You can book this one as an alternative to those above, or after them, and modify the return time throughout the day. Or check out the next section for later afternoon strategy.

Tips for maximizing your Genie+ reservations

Use your Genie+ reservations strategically to minimize wait times. For example, if you have a reservation for Expedition Everest at 10:00 AM, try to get another reservation as soon as you scan into the queue. You can also use the My Disney Experience app to check wait times for other attractions and make additional Genie+ reservations throughout the day.

Maximizing Your Time

Animal Kingdom is a sprawling park, and it can be easy to luxuriate walking from one attraction to another. Here are some tips for avoiding crowds and minimizing walking:

Late Afternoon Strategy

Maybe the best kept secret at Disney World is afternoons at Animal Kingdom. The park closes early and is home to one of the most popular attractions.

People go early. Animal Kingdom is a rope-drop park and morning is one of the busiest times of the day. But, it’s a half day park.

Lots of guests leave after lunch or even for lunch. Taking the Disney bus to eat at Sanaa is one of my favorite day plans.

Late afternoon is quite possibly the slowest time of day at Animal Kingdom.

Ride Priorities

Popular shows like The Lion King and The Big Blue and Beyond, last performance of the day are early. You’ll want to see these first, and check the schedule ahead of time.

Try to time a ride on Kilimanjaro Safaris near sunset, but before it gets dark. You’ll need to keep an eye on the queue wait time. Entering the queue about an 1-1.5 hours before sunset, works well.

Save Avatar: Flight of Passage for last! Make the most of your time by entering the this line within the last hour of park close. As long as you enter the line before the park closes, you will get to ride. Maximize the hours Animal Kingdom is open for everything else, and move the longest wait to after close

Which is the Best Strategy?

Each strategy works well, it just depends on how you like to roll!

We do NOT recommend Genie+ for Animal Kingdom unless it is a peak day. Spring Break, Christmas time – sure. But there are not enough attractions or long enough waits to justify it.

DO buy the Avatar: Flight of Passage Lightening Lane, if it’s within your budget to do so. You’ll save more time than using Genie+.
